The Nation That Keeps Drowning

Every rainy season, we live the same nightmare. Streets turn into rivers, families flee their homes and entire cities grind to a halt. And yet, year after year, the government insists: we are doing something about it.

Yes, they do something but not the right thing.

Based on testimonies, flood control projects have become the biggest cash cows of corruption. Canals are left half-dug, drainage systems collapse within months and ghost projects miraculously appear as “completed.” The funds are gone but the floods stay.

Every peso stolen from flood control is a life placed in danger. Every ghost project is a real family forced onto an evacuation centers. These are not natural disasters, they are political crimes.

Flood control should have been our shield. Instead, it became the scheme. While the people wade through filthy water, the powerful wade through kickbacks.

No amount of cement can hold back the water if the foundation of governance is rotten.

You cannot build resilience on corruption. You cannot expect progress when public service has become private business.

We have built dikes, pumping stations and drainage systems but never accountability. And until we do, no amount of infrastructure can save us.

We keep rebuilding walls and roads but what this country truly needs to rebuild is conscience.

And so, let the line be drawn here. The Filipino people have endured too many floods, too many lies, too many billions lost to greed.

Let there be no mistaking the truth and no more excuses: For the Philippines to live, corruption must die!
