First things first, condolences to the families of the dearly departed and pray the survivors are recused on time. Words fail me.
Next, I've been mislead on what a flash flood actually means all my life until now. I never knew it could rise higher than a 8±storey building.
I'd like to add my 2 cents, having done extensive research on urban housing, especially regarding solutions for the Nigerian Market, so that our "Luxury" real estate guys will not just see your post and think that building vertically is all that it takes to solve housing alone.
Vertical development maximises urban density, but unchecked socio-economic segregation risks creating high-rise slums.
Concentrating poverty within single developments leads to rapid maintenance failure, underfunding, and structural neglect.
Preventing this requires mandatory mixed-income quotas per block, targeting a strategic ratio such as 40% high-end, 40% mid-level, and 20% affordable housing.
This ensures there's;
- Guaranteed Upkeep: Revenue and property standards from higher-tier units ensure continuous building management and infrastructure maintenance.
- De-stigmatisation: Blending income levels prevents ghettoisation and fosters shared civic accountability.
- Economic Viability: Mixed demographics support a broader commercial ecosystem, keeping developments vibrant and self-sustaining.
Building upward solves land scarcity, but socio-economic integration guarantees long-term livability, security, and urban resilience.
FLASH: The Honorable Minister of Works, Senator @realdaveumahi today launched the COASTAL HIGHWAY GUARDS, starting with 40 officers, these personnel will be in charge of:
- Maintaining presence on the highway
- Report suspicious activities
- Restrict Hawking on the Coastal Highway
- Report and Monitor any form of vandalism
- Restrict Keke or Okada on the Coastal Highway
- Restrict loitering on the Coastal Highway
The team is led by Rtd Gen. Adekunle Shodunke, they will work in conjunction with the security agencies in the State.
The Hon. Minister says this is not an ‘empowerment program’, It is a full time job to protect National Assets of the Government and in line with the Renewed Hope of Mr President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR
