My younger sister got seriously ill in 2024. And I mean seriously ill. We didn't even know what was wrong with her.
She couldn't identify colours. She couldn't properly count the number of fingers in front of her. She couldn't recognize my parents or people around her. She was saying things that made absolutely no sense, and whenever she was asked a question, her answers were completely off. There were other things happening too that I wouldn't even want to share here.
It was scary.
I don't even know why my Dad happened to be home that day, but thank God he was.
We rushed her to UCH to figure out what was going on. By the time we got there, her condition had gotten even worse. Tests were done, consultants saw her, and eventually, it was decided that she needed to be admitted immediately.
They told us to wait for a nurse or someone to attend to her.
Minutes turned into an hour.
Nothing.
My Dad started asking what was going on because this was someone who clearly needed urgent medical attention. Then came the excuse: "There’s no bed space in this ward."
Okay, move her to another ward then.
"No bed space there too."
At this point, we were seriously considering taking her to a private hospital. But we'd already done tests at UCH, she was getting worse by the minute, and moving her elsewhere meant more time wasted, more tests, more money and more stress.
Then my Dad, who used to be a top executive in UCH's Finance Department, had to start making calls.
He called someone and the person said she was coming immediately.
While that person was on her way, another consultant happened to see my Dad around the A&E department and asked what was happening.
He heard the situation and immediately stepped in.
Suddenly, they found a bed.
A bed that apparently did not exist a few minutes earlier.
When they eventually realized who my Dad was, the apologies and explanations started coming. One excuse after another.
And I haven't even started talking about some of the nurses and their attitude. There are genuinely good ones, but there are also some whose behaviour towards patients is completely unacceptable.
What disturbed me the most about the whole experience wasn't even just the lack of bed space, It was realizing that who you know can determine how quickly you get care in a Nigerian hospital
My Dad tried to go through the normal process. He didn't want to pull strings or make calls. He shouldn't have needed to.
But when your child is seriously ill and you're watching her condition deteriorate in front of you, what exactly are you supposed to do?
You make the calls.
You use whoever you know.
You do whatever you have to do.
And that's the problem.
Someone without those connections could have been left there waiting.
The Nigerian healthcare system will genuinely make you question God sometimes.
Today, we lost an important figure in the lives of many, killed by rascals who deserve nothing but the full weight and might of the state.

“In Haiti & Somalia, Terrorists generate more revenue than the government. In Ecuador, a presidential candidate campaigned to end insecurity, the terrorists warned him and when he campaigned against insecurity again, they killed him. This is where Nigeria is heading” -Bulama Bukarti
You’re releasing 720 terrorists who have murdered thousands of innocent civilians back into our communities, and you expect insecurity to come to an end?
Stupid leaders. Hate you guys with everything in me.

We need to accept the fact that at this point, only elites, politicians & their families enjoying national cake inside government house are safe in this country.
BREAKING: Major General Abubakar Rabe (rtd) who was abducted in Katsina State exactly two weeks ago is d€ad.
Rabe was kidnapped alongside his wife around the Matazu area of Katsina while travelling for a wedding.
The abduction of Mr. Ab Kemuna & his wife in Kabba-Bunu, Kogi State is another painful reminder of Nigeria’s growing insecurity.
Every time I see videos of kidnappers beating innocent victims bcus ransom was not paid, it breaks my heart. Imagine if that elderly man were your father.
The primary duty of government is to protect lives &. property. Nigerians deserve more than endless discussions about taxes, fuel subsidy removal, and economic policies while insecurity continues to destroy families.
We cannot normalize kidnapping, violence, & fear.
