"Home and Community Based Services make it possible for people with I/DD to carry out daily activities of living, build skills, find and keep jobs. They also allow loved ones to remain in the workforce."
-Barbara Merrill, ANCOR CEO at @HouseCommerce Health Subcommittee hearing
Nicholas Smith, a DSP who recorded a video so that he wouldn’t disrupt supports for people he works with, said “DSPs support every part of an individual’s physical, emotional and life needs.”
“I love my job and the people I support, but the career doesn’t pay a livable wage.”
Data from Open Minds shows Kentucky ranks 8th amongst states with the LONGEST I/DD waiver waiting lists. Nearly 13,000 Kentuckians are still waiting for access to critical community-based services.
Kentuckians with I/DD deserve more than a waitlist.
With the Senate’s passage of the reconciliation bill, nearly
100 million will be stripped from Kentucky’s SCL program over the next 4 years. This program enables Kentuckians with significant intellectual/developmental disabilities to receive support services in the community.
Our hearts go out to everyone affected by last night's storms across Kentucky.
To our members, providers, and the communities you serve—we’re here for you. Stay safe, and stay strong.
🚨TAKE ACTION🚨
Last night, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued a memo instructing all federal agencies to "temporarily pause all activities related obligation or disbursement of all Federal financial assistance..."
While it is unclear at this time whether Medicaid falls within this broad scope, please take action today to contact your Senator and Representative through our action alert and request that they reach out to OMB for immediate clarification.

In addition to a longstanding underinvestment in America’s direct support workforce, several regulatory changes have been introduced that, without commensurate funding, would further threaten supports and services for people with disabilities. #DisabilityCommunityAct
Longstanding underinvestments in HCBS and the direct support workforce has led to reduced access to services. We support the #DisabilityCommunityAct - vital legislation that protects access to critically important HCBS services. @TheRealANCOR@LeaderMcConnell
The Kentucky House has just passed its version of the budget, which contains significant funding for our 1915c waivers. This funding will increase direct care worker wages, increase access to care, and revitalize services for our most vulnerable. THANK YOU!
A round of applause for @KYHouseGOP. Their proposed budget contains over $870 million new state/federal dollars to support Kentuckians with disabilities. New waiver slots, addressing underserved populations, and supporting providers and caregivers!
The 2024 meeting of the General Assembly begins today! Throughout the session, our advocacy will focus on issues that will improve 1915(c) waiver services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our members drive our policy!
Inclusion matters. Community matters. The important work @_teddy_k and @CincyHat do for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities deserves all the praise. #WPMOY
Ted Karras has devoted his time to creating @CincyHat as a way to fund and work with the Village of Merici, a neighborhood for adults with developmental disabilities.
This is the story of @_teddy_k's Cincy Hats ⬇️
#WPMOYChallenge | @Nationwide
Continued kudos to @_teddy_k and. @CincyHat for their commitment to services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities! These vitally important services deserve the spotlight and we couldn’t think of a better ambassador! Kentucky providers support you!
One year ago today, we launched https://t.co/RGnpvr0CzK after @_teddy_k had a crazy idea that we could sell some hats and maybe make some money for @VillageofMerici.
365 days, 12,000 online orders and 20,000+ hats later, we have endless gratitude for this amazing community. You’ve all made an incredible impact on a very underserved group of adults with developmental disabilities. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. 🧡🖤
📢Exciting News! The HCBS Relief Act of 2023 has been introduced in Congress by @SenBobCasey. This is a monumental step towards enhancing support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Community-based support services for people with disabilities remain in crisis. Thank you to @GMA and @TheRealANCOR for shedding light on this important issue!
A growing concern as advocacy groups say a workforce shortage is causing group homes helping Americans with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be understaffed. ABC News' @WhitJohnson has more.
