The middle class wasn't a natural outcome. It was a concession, made when elites feared revolt. Now the concession is gone, and we're slowly being pushed back toward serfdom while we argue about avocado toast.
Getting laid off and then being offered COBRA health insurance for ONLY $2,800 a month.
Because obviously, when someone loses their income, the first thing they can afford is nearly $3,000 a month just to keep their health insurance.
Make it make sense.
The past five years have turned a generation of ambitious, career-driven millennials into people who have completely lost faith in corporate life. They used to dream of climbing the ladder. Now, a lot of them just want out of the rat race.
your salary should determine whether you drive a toyota or a porsche, not whether you can afford groceries or keep a roof over your head. WORKING FULL-TIME SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO LIVE.
I’m done chasing the corporate ladder. I don’t give a fuck a damn about fancy titles or applause. I just want work that pay the bills, a peaceful life, good people around me, the means to make a difference in someone life, and the freedom to figure out the rest as I go.
It’s 2029. The AI bubble has burst. Your rent is $900 for a two bedroom. You bought a new high end graphics card for $125 because there are too many hitting the market. You’re living off the massive government settlement w/ai companies, spacex, amazon, and meta for price gouging
People are cutting back on absolutely everything.
They're buying supermarket own brands, driving less, cancelling subscriptions, staying in instead of going out and putting off purchases until they can justify the expense.
They're making sacrifices that would have seemed ridiculous a few years ago just to keep their heads above water.
But when wages disappear into rent, council tax, energy bills, food and transport, even the strictest budget can only do so much.
You shouldn't have to give up every little thing that makes life enjoyable just to afford the essentials.
If working full-time still means you can't afford to live comfortably, maybe the problem isn't your spending habits. Maybe the system is broken.
i know it’s been said a million times but american infrastructure is so pathetic. like why is there no high speed rail between nyc and chicago that’s a 9 hour drive and you’d be connecting the top gdp cities in the country
Bar culture is dying. Ppl are craving third spaces more than ever, so why does every social option have to revolve around drinking poison?
I miss malls. Movie theaters. Bowling alleys. Bookstores. Coffee shops. Picnics.
I don't want to “download the app” to pay for parking. I don't want to “create an account” to see a menu. I don't want to “provide feedback” on a 30-second interaction. I just want to exist in the physical world without a digital leash
We act our wage around here. You get what you pay for. Going beyond the job description is either unpaid labor or something we get reprimanded for. Either way, no thanks.
tiran un montón de análisis sobre por qué los negocios no están vendiendo y se les olvida la posibilidad más obvia: la gente ya no tiene plata para comprar nada.
none of this normal btw. the fact an average house is priced 10x our salaries instead of 3x, the fact that grocery prices are at an all time high, the fact that it’s becoming impossible to find a job. none of it’s normal and stop letting the older generations gaslight you into thinking it is
i find it hilarious that after decades of squeezing every last drop of blood out of the middle class, now capitalists are complaining that not enough people are eating at restaurants, taking trips, using airlines, or buying crap from box stores.
So tired of this question. The rich already own everything, they have everything they need, they no longer need us. THEY NO LONGER NEED US. They don't need a working economy. THEY WON. THEY HAVE EVERYTHING. They will step over your dead body on the way to the golf course.
There's a reason every villain in a Bond movie is a megalomaniac billionaire.
They're the peak of human selfishness & rotten to the core.
Stop idolizing them.
Y’all need to stop saying billionaires create jobs. With or without billionaires, we'd still build, design, teach, sell, and buy things. Billionaires just hoard the profits.
