I’ve rewritten this post so many times I’ve lost count. Please read.

I got the news about Leah @LiquidFaerie late on Monday night and it’s taken me a little while to process everything.

Leah was one of my closest friends since October 7th.

I’ve not stopped listening to her voicenotes for the past 24 hours.

I’ve had “friends” that I’ve known since I was a child that, on the day our people were massacred, just turned their back on me and my family in an instant. But I’m glad they did. Because it made room for people like Leah to turn up and entire my life. I’m sure a lot of you can relate to that.

I called her “Sis” and she would call me “my Bro” (not in the same way as “dude” or whatever)

Hands down. She is the reason I do what I do on here. I say that with no exaggeration.

She was one of my first followers on here and never stopped inspiring me and supporting me.

I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve almost packed it all in and she was one of the people that lifted me up and kept me going, even at times where we hadn’t spoken in a little while.

Everything about her. The true passion, the knowledge, the time she devoted to setting everything aside just to listen, engage with and support others.

She would roar like a lion just to stand up for what’s right and in the next minute she would be as gentle as anything when she knew you needed it.

It takes something very special to be able to focus and utilise your energy in that way, and so naturally too. People like that don’t come around often.

@MummyisT summed her up perfectly with the word “formidable” - that’s Leah.

She introduced me to so many great people on here that I now cherish. She has been the common denominator amongst the very best.

She touched so many lives of people that never met her. People around the world.

And I’m not just talking about “follower count” - she went out of her way to engage and support as many people as she could.

That impact is an amazing thing to achieve and the world is a better place for it.

She was an incredible artist in life, a mother and a friend to so many.

She’ll laugh at me for saying this (because I always called her a “hippy”) but I mean it when I say she was.. PURE energy and she left that energy on everyone she connected with.

We owe it to her to keep the energy that she left us alive.

It's been in the works for a decade via the Islamic Curriculum Initiative and targets middle and high school learners in Muslim schools first, but with national ambitions.

The United Nations yesterday celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Durban Conference, in a session of the Human Rights Council. I took the floor:

“Mr. President, the measure of an event lies not in its aspirations, but in its legacy.

Twenty-five years ago, in Durban, the UN convened a World Conference Against Racism. But this mission was betrayed. It was turned into a conference for racism.

In the streets, thousands of radical activists marched against Israel and Jews, some carrying signs praising Adolf Hitler. Jewish students were threatened.

The Arab Lawyers Union handed out cartoons of hook-nosed Jews. Copies of “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” the notorious antisemitic forgery, were openly sold.

At the NGO Forum, Israel was declared a “racist apartheid state,” and accused of “genocide.” In the Durban outcome document, the Jewish state alone was singled out as a perpetrator of racism.

Holocaust survivor and Congressman Tom Lantos called it “the most sickening and unabashed display of hate for Jews” he had witnessed since the Nazi era.

Durban was a turning point. Antisemitism was repackaged in the language of human rights. Ancient libels were given new terms: “apartheid,” “racism,” “genocide.”

Once embedded in UN discourse, that vocabulary spread to civil society, media, and campuses. The singling out of the world’s only Jewish state—as uniquely evil—became normalized.

Today, we live with the consequences. Jews are attacked in the streets of major cities, targeted in synagogues, harassed on campuses.

And when a mandate-holder of this Council publicly amplifies rhetoric describing the Jewish state as “the incarnation of evil” — and is backed by Iran and South Africa — we must ask: Has the lesson of Durban truly been learned?”
