@chrisjudetaylor Well as a library/archives worker, I'd read this as him saying the institution didn't have good intellectual/physical control over their collection (don't know where their stuff is), which is something I'd find pretty embarrassing if it was said about my institution.

@chrisjudetaylor Story has a happy ending though, because we ended up running into one of their staff members later in our trip and he gave a personal tour of their rare books collection. So I came away with a good impression of their staff, if not their venue rental policies.
