في الذكرى الأولى لرحيل الفنان زياد الرحباني، وإحياءً لذكراه، تخصّص «الأخبار» سلسلة من المواد لهذه المناسبة. ونبدأ بإعادة نشر بعضٍ من أعماله الموسيقية، نزولاً عند رغبته بأن يستمع الجمهور، أولاً، إلى موسيقاه.
والبداية مع مقطوعة «أبو علي». وُضعَت النسخة الأولى منها عام 1974 لمسرحية «أبو علي الأسمراني» (إخراج بيرج فازليان).
كانت عبارة عن موسيقى مختصرة، طوّرت بشكل هائل وصدرت عام 1979 في ألبوم «أبو علي»، على نسق الديسكو الذي راج آنذاك، لكن بتوزيع أوركسترالي وتطعيم شرقي (إيقاعاً ونغماً) وتطوير وابتكارات في التوزيع تجعلها تخرج من نطاق الديسكو. نسمع فيها صرخة «يا أبو علي/ وَينَك يا أبو علي» بصوت جوزيف صقر.
عام 1991، صدرت نسخة مصوّرة منها، بتوزيع لـ«بيغ باند» جاز ونبض «فانكي» كأنها نسخة الديسكو القديمة مضغوطة، وإضافات صوتية لجوقة، في شريط VHS بعنوان «موسيقى على قيد الحياة من بيروت»، حوى مقتطفات من حفلات في لبنان وخارجه («أبو علي» تختتم الشريط وهي من حفلة في بروكسيل عام 1986). هذا التوزيع هو الذي سيستخدمه زياد، مع بعض التعديلات، في الحفلات اللاحقة.
عام 2009 صدرت «أبو علي» ضمن ألبوم مقتطفات من حفلات دمشق (2008) في توزيع أوركسترالي يستند بشكل أساسي إلى نسخة «موسيقى على قيد الحياة من بيروت»، ومضاف إليها وتريات ومطلع يوقف القلب للأوركسترا، أقرب إلى إقلاع طائرة منه إلى استهلال موسيقي، وحظِيَت بأداء متقن وتنفيذ دقيق شأنها شأن مجمل البرنامج في تلك الحفلات.
