Cardinal Ernest Simony (age 97) was a prisoner under the communist regime of Albania for 28 years from 1963. He was imprisoned after he offered a Mass for the repose of US President John F. Kennedy.
While a prisoner, he spent 18 years working in mines and the next ten in sewage canals. Yet this holy bishop forgave his prisoners and went back to the prison camp on July 31, 2026, to offer Mass for those who suffered or died there.
