Academic friends: I’m digging into the literature on how economic shocks affect crime and criminal behavior. I of course have access to everything that’s been published, but if you are working on an ongoing project relevant to this question, please send it to me (abstract, slides, working paper, whatever you have). My email is on my website. Thank you!!
Today’s the deadline for the Discrimination & Diversity Workshop. Crime economists: your work on inequality in crime and justice is especially welcome in the session I’m chairing. https://t.co/TeYnNsa3EW
Looking for research funding? @Arnold_Ventures has several open RFPs. This includes a standing RFP for causal research related to US crime/the CJ system/ppl w criminal records.
First step is a 3-page LOI. We aim to get you a funding decision within 3 months of that first step.
I'm having lots of conversations this month with people who are eager to do much-needed, data-driven work in the criminal justice policy space, but frustrated that due to federal budget cuts, etc., no one is hiring.
My advice: If you have an idea for something you'd like to do, to improve the quality and use of evidence in the CJ policy space, pitch it to us at @Arnold_Ventures. We are always looking for new, creative partners who are fired up to make a big impact. You don't need to work at a big organization to do that.
This is your chance to be the change you want to see!
(The best way to send us an idea is in writing, via email. You can find mine on my website.)

Are you on the academic job market this year with a causal study related to crime/CJ in the US?
Please apply for funding from AV and let us support your work!
The first step is a 3-page summary of your research questions, data, and research design. You can probably write that in your sleep.
I promise that in 9 months you'll be glad you have:
* summer funding for 2025
* funding to cover your time in AY 2025-26 (either for a post-doc or to buy out some of your teaching)
Grants on the order of $100k-200k will be very reasonable in most cases, and we can go higher if the study costs warrant it.
