We got 2 camps on the yesterday's breaking news "Yuga sold Punks IP"

1. Did Yuga run out of money so badly they had to sell the Punks’ IP?

2. Garga is clearing out the Augean Stables (and I hope no one here is still clinging to the first theory 😁)? Full @BoredApeYC, @OthersideMeta & @apecoin conviction play?

The biggest NFT news since Yuga Labs acquired the CryptoPunks IP — they’ve now sold that same IP to the obscure nonprofit Node Foundation. The circle is complete. All that’s left is for BAYC to return to a 0.08 ETH floor… and then run it up past 140 again 😁

Let’s break this down:

1. The Infinite Node Foundation @nodefnd — a completely unknown dark horse (a nonprofit horse, to be precise) — received official status on Nov 19, 2024 (you can check via IRS using EIN 99-4027702 — Form 990 hasn’t been filed yet since they’re too “fresh”).

2. On April 17, 2025, the foundation received a $25,000,000 donation from @mickymalka (Founder & Managing Partner, Ribbit Capital) and Becky Kleiner (his wife). The donation came via their family vehicle — the Malka-Kleiner Family Fund. Now that’s a family degen level. Meanwhile, your partner probably yells at you for buying Mutants 😁

3. On May 13, 2025, Yuga officially announced the sale of the CryptoPunks IP to @nodefnd.

The deal amount is not disclosed, but rumor has it the price was around $20 million. Importantly:
👉 This was a sale of IP only. The CryptoPunks held by Yuga (the biggest holder actually) remain in their possession, including their full commercial rights.

Simultaneously, the advisory board for Node Foundation is revealed — with amazing faces:
1. @matthall2000 & @pents90 – Founders of Larva Labs;
2.@GordonGoner - Our beloved Co-Founder;
3. @ArtOnBlockchain Founder of Art Blocks, OG Punk collector, and a die-hard art fan;

Tell me about better team for @cryptopunks preservation and cultural development of their phenomenon.

So, what does @nodefnd plan to do with their new asset?

Pretty simple:
They’re going to exhibit all 10,000 CryptoPunks in a dedicated physical space in Palo Alto, California.
Additionally, the collection will be featured in the “Infinite Images: The Art of Algorithms” exhibit at the Toledo Museum of Art.

And, of course, they’re going to nurture the cultural phenomenon that is CryptoPunks.

So, what about the sale itself?

As always, the community is split:

🪙 “Yuga is broke” camp:

They claim Yuga had to sell the IP to cover a massive cash shortfall. Feel free to send members of this camp on a one-way trip to the erotic dimension.
Even if they were in trouble, they hold 423 Punks with a floor of 48 ETH — they could’ve easily sold 50% OTC, kept the IP, and still had 50% of the PFPs left.

🧠 “Clean-up crew” camp (my camp — greetings from the cult!):

Yuga was THE great steward for Punks, I hope dumb AF haters remember, that it was Yuga who gave the IP rights to all Punks owners.

As for the due sale - it fits exactly into the concept Yuga laid out back in Feb 2022:

3.@apecoin (originally unofficial, but post-SEC resolution, it’s now part of the main narrative)

All the sales of side projects we’ve seen — and will see — are part of Garga & Co’s cleanup operation, a Herculean effort to hand off legacy collections to genuine fans, while focusing on what really matters.

Instead of letting projects fade into irrelevance, they’re delegating stewardship to the right people and earning respect from collectors.

It’s a positive-sum story. I’ll leave it with a quote from Gordon:

“I also believe this deal gives Yuga some additional space to refocus on what it set out to build in the first place.
And I believe everyone wins here — not just punks, but Yuga, apes, and the broader ecosystem.
My hope is this helps set pace for a new chapter in NFTs, and I’m happy to pass the torch to the good folks over at Node, and let Yuga get back to its apeish roots.”
