The images posted on our President’s social media account this week were deeply offensive. Regardless of the context, we should lament anytime we see something that denigrates the humanity of any member of our society. God’s word teaches us that each of us is made in the image of God and that God has made us all from one man and of equal value in his sight. That shared humanity is core to our understanding of the gospel.
We not only want to model that kind of ethnic unity in our church, we also long to see it reflected in our society. I pray that God would heal our land of our brokenness and make @SummitRDU a testimony of the unity that the gospel of Jesus Christ brings.
Some hard truths about this whole dust-up:
• The MAGA ecosystem has a contingent regularly produces and shares racially charged and downright racist content with no accountability or repercussions.
• Truth Social, where all of this happened, is owned by the President and full of racially charged content.
• It’s so prevalent that the President’s own algorithm fed it to him.
• The President and his Press Secretary have refused to offer any apology even up until now.
• There is zero chance some low level staffer is running the President’s personal account, his MAIN avenue for communication.
• Before rushing to give credit for deleting it, countless supporters were rushing to defend it.
• Far too many people are refusing to demand an apology because they’re afraid of being seen as “woke.” The progressive gaze is not the only controlling gaze.
• A sincere apology early probably would have helped greatly, but the president is a man who by his own admission has “never asked for forgiveness.” He’s acting consistently here.
• A potential result is that this is a galvanizing event so that even those who are now staking their credibility on standing with the President well now lose the very things they wanted if there is a wipeout in the midterm elections, which strategists on the right are terrified of currently.
• An even worse result is that once again, relationships are being strained and even good causes harmed because of a small group of people who have a total lack of impulse control and who tolerate what ought never to be tolerated.
And after all of this, it’s those of us who speak up against it that will be told we are the problem. I am a conservative. But if we don’t deal with this underbelly of racist content on the post-conservative right, that failure will come at a great cost.
Silence cannot continue to be an option for those who claim Jesus is Lord and that they love their Black and Brown brothers and Sisters. I'm wondering what @albertmohler , @SBCExecComm , @BaptistPress , @SBTS , @SBCMeeting and others will have to say now. We are are watching.
Racist. Deranged. Humiliating to our country. The fact that we have decided to pretend to this is normal every day is a moral abomination. Have we any shame?
And every day an entire generation is being told it is “Christian” to support this. God have mercy on us.
I long for a day when the United States has a president who, just for starters, not to even get into more serious matters, is not older than Methuselah and does not sound like a 13 year-old on TikTok talking about middle school classmates. I don’t think this is too much to ask. And do not say to me, I guess you wish we had so-and-so and think what they’d do. We don’t have so-and-so. We have this one. And I don’t think it makes me woke to wish he acted like a grown-up.
Why can’t pro-life Republicans stand up for persons like Alex Pretti? They use the pro-life mantra as a political football, but it’s clear that when ICE murders someone they stand with the murderers, not the victims. Hypocrisy on steroids!
Law enforcement was more aggressive with Alex Pretti today than it was with the insurrectionists on January 6! No one with a conscience - and certainly no one filled with the Holy Spirit - can co-sign or justify the murder of Pretti.
I cannot imagine being a parent facing your worst possible pain and loss only to have the government smear him and slander him to countless millions of Americans. It's all so repugnant and vile that it's hard to process.
It’s really unbelievable that Donald Trump says something like, “civil rights were bad for white people,” a few times a day, and the media barely covers it. Everyone just moves on so quickly.
