.@n_rhee: Retirement in the US is a patchwork system with “a really big gaping hole” for self-employed people. Someone in Kropp’s situation needs $2,915 a month to cover their basic necessities, "twice the average Social Security benefit in California."

@masterlongevity@jrivanob I think Israel likely has options for dealing with Hamas that don’t involve violating international law. A right to self defense is not a free pass when it comes to human rights.
@masterlongevity@jrivanob All I can say is that I listened to all the speakers, and this doesn’t represent their messages or why 15,000 people from all religious and ethnic backgrounds showed up yesterday. We were united in one message: ceasefire now in order to end the massacre of innocent civilians.
@masterlongevity@jrivanob Not sure where you’re getting this. I was there, alI I saw were messages of peace. And plenty of Jewish participants with signs calling for an end to the massacre of civilians.
The U.S. provides $3.8 billion a year to Israel. The Biden administration and Congress must make it clear. Israel has the right to defend itself and destroy Hamas terrorism, but it does not have the right to use U.S. dollars to kill thousands of innocent men, women, and children in Gaza.
A joint publication of the Labor Center and @NIRSonline conducts the same equity analysis at the national level. This report is accompanied fact sheets for each state and DC. https://t.co/10dbIsyvWg

#SB525 would establish a $25 min wage for health care workers at various medical facilities. Our new study finds it could substantially improve conditions for low-wage health care workers, ameliorate staffing shortages, and improve quality of care. https://t.co/nXUQfcK61w
The editorial board of @marinij writes that our recent report by @n_rhee "... makes it clear: Public pensions are part of the solution for the equity problem in Marin."

@RBReich The material benefits of unions are important. In addition, especially for workers in low wage jobs, respect and dignity at work and protection from abuse.
Why do you appreciate unions?
I’ll start:
Weekends off
Paid vacations
Work breaks
Sick leave
Paid holidays
No child labor
Safer working conditions
Health care and retirement benefits
@gov_fails@TheTBrew@JoeBiden The Social Security Trust Fund is invested in US Treasuries, the safest in the world unless the GOP burns down the world economy through default. So is a portion of most pension funds, which also invest in risky assets. I suppose the Trust Fund should be stuffed in a mattress?
