During the national commemorations, Mrs. Laura Ahumuza, a Senior Nutritionist at the @MinofHealthUG, presented two critical guidelines: the National Human Milk Banking Guidelines and the Nutrition Guidelines for Children with Feeding Disabilities.
The ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐๐ง ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ค ๐๐๐ง๐ค๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐๐ฌ set the standards for safely collecting, screening, and distributing donated breastmilk ensuring vulnerable infants who cannot access their mother's milk still get the nutrition they need to survive and thrive.
The ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐๐ง ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐ ๐๐๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฌ provide clear, practical guidance for health workers and caregivers supporting children who face feeding challenges ensuring their unique nutritional needs are recognized and met, not overlooked.
Together, these guidelines close critical gaps in Uganda's nutrition response. They matter because nutrition services must work for all children no child should be left behind.
A significant milestone for nutrition in Uganda ๐บ๐ฌ
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Richard Mugahi, officially closed the event with the national launch of three important nutrition guidelines and tools: the Human Milk Banking Guidelines, Nutrition in Disability Guidelines, and the Nutrient Profile Model (NPM).
Each tool addresses a different part of Ugandaโs nutrition landscape:
๐น Human Milk Banking Guidelines โ strengthening standards for the safe collection, processing, storage and provision of donated human milk.
๐น Nutrition in Disability Guidelines โ promoting more inclusive nutrition services that recognise the specific needs of people living with disabilities.
๐น Nutrient Profile Model โ providing a scientific basis for assessing the nutritional composition of foods and supporting healthier food environments.
Together, these tools translate nutrition policy into practical action, strengthening health systems, protecting vulnerable populations and supporting better nutrition outcomes for Ugandans across the life course.
