Supporting journalists’ well-being is key to a strong profession.
In partnership with the @MediaCouncilK and Basic Needs Basic Rights Kenya, we hosted a Mental Health Master Class for journalists.
The session provided a safe and confidential platform for journalists to share their experiences, interact with mental health experts, and strengthen their knowledge on personal safety and trauma-informed reporting.

@nabooker from @AKU_GSMC described a recent initiative, a podcast titled “Six Minutes of Health”, developed with a hospital partner to deliver concise, evidence-based health information for busy audiences. The aim is to provide credible voices in a digital environment increasingly affected by misinformation, by making expert knowledge more accessible and engaging.
From her broader work, she drew several key lessons: the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, the value of diverse research approaches and voices, and the central role of context in shaping health communication outcomes. She emphasised that what works in one setting may not work in another, particularly where culture and religion strongly influence health behaviours.
She also highlighted the importance of understanding communication platforms (traditional and digital) and their respective strengths and limitations.

Inspired by leadership in media?
Celebrate this milestone with us as Allan Checkwech steps into the role of Acting General Manager - Editorial at Nation Media Group Uganda.
“This elevation carries an expectation that the team and I collectively deliver on the organisation’s strategy and ensure that the journalism remains intact and stronger. I have been mentored for this role from the time I joined the newsroom almost 15 years ago. The EMMLI programme at the Aga Khan University, which I undertook in 2023, came at the right time for me because it strengthened how I approach leadership. We are ready for the challenge.”
