The older I get, the more I realize that success at most things isn't about finding the one trick or secret nobody knows about. It's consistently doing the boring, mundane things everyone knows about but is too unfocused/undisciplined to do.
Get good at boring.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or an expert as long as you’re on the path.
If a beginner is on the path, all they need is time.
If an expert is off the path, they won’t be an expert for long.
Being unhealthy is painful, being healthy is painful, having no relationships is painful, having relationships is painful, being lazy is painful, working really hard is painful.
It's just different flavors of pain. So you might as well pick the flavors of pain that are gonna help you and give you a better set of life.
“Most beliefs are self-validating. Angry people look for problems and find them everywhere, happy people seek out smiles and find them everywhere, pessimists look for trouble and find it everywhere.” — @morganhousel
A good life is largely defined by what's missing:
- The fights that don't happen
- The health problems you don't have
- The debt you avoid
- The desires you don't indulge
A good life's not about gaining. It's about letting go.
Instead of worrying if they’ll like you, ask yourself if you are going to like them.
Instead of trying to say the right thing, see if they say the right thing to you.
Instead of looking for their approval, decide if you are willing to give yours.
