It is a tragic irony in Pakistan that Shia Muslims who rise to senior government posts or public office are expected to efface their religious identity. I commend Mohsin Naqvi for his refusal to hide his faith though his courage is undoubtedly fortified by formidable political heft. Yet this liberty must be universally accessible: no Shia official, journalist, or media personality should ever feel compelled to obscure their beliefs. When the Mayor of New York can openly practice his faith, why, after 79 years of independence, must Shias in Pakistani public life still tread so cautiously? Religious freedom is not a privilege of the powerful; it is a fundamental right that no one should have to sacrifice for a position.
A common theme in meeting people whose status turned from HIV to full blown AIDS was simply one of negligence. Whether adults or children, when complaining of symptoms none were recommended HIV tests. Slowly regulation is picking up, but an HIV test should be a part of any routine blood work.

Images coming out of Gaza in recent days continue to horrify, a young boy with one leg blown off, people mauled and ripped apart. The Zionist state is a rogue killing machine facilitated by the racist imperialist West.
While I am not often in the habit of posting my Niyaz duties this year we honoured Priya Kumari who was kidnapped in 2019 while also distributing Sabeel on the 10th of Muharram. We demand her return and the return of all kidnapped in the kacha.
