Prime Minister @andyburnham and Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband : how much longer will Britain remain silent?

For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir,  which according to the UN,  amounts to torture and which  is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health. 

He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors.

The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture.

He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years.

Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive  medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons.

Yet those orders are being defied.

This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency.

He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and  include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university.

His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls. 

I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not  intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father. 

@FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court;  restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights.

Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient.
This an appeal to the new Burnham government  to please now do the right thing.

10 اپریل 2022 کی رات ہی لوگوں نے فیصلہ سّنا دیا تھا کہ اُنکی غمی اور خوشی عمران خان کی غمی اور خوشی سے جُڑ چکی ہے،
اِس وقت پاکستان تحریک انصاف کی قیادت و ورکرز میں سے ہر 10 میں سے 8 گھر متاثر ہیں، کوئی ایف آئی آر تو کوئی تشدد برداشت کر چکا ہے، کوئی چادر چار دیواری کا تقدس پامال کروا چکا تو کوئی گھر کی غیر سیاسی خواتین کی بے حرمتی،
پی ٹی آئی سے منسلک لوگوں کے کاروبار تباہ و برباد کرکے انہیں جسمانی، ذہنی اذیت کے ساتھ ساتھ معاشی طور پر کمزور کیا، قیادت سے منسلک سفید پوش لوگ اپنے گھروں کے بجلی کے بل و گاڑی کا فیول افورڈ کرنے سے قاصر ہیں، لیکن اپنی سیاسی سوچ پر قائم ہیں،

25 مئی 2022, 6 اکتوبر 2024، 26 نومبر 2024 سمیت ہر کال احتجاج جلسہ ریلی میں بچے، نوجوان بزرگ، حتی کہ خواتین اپنے شیر خوار بچے گود اُٹھا کر پہنچتی رہیں،
24 فروری 2024 کو عمران کے حکم پر لوگوں نے اپنا سب سے بڑا آئینی حق استعمال کرتے ہوئے فیصلہ سازوں کے سارے پلان خاک کردیے،
ملٹری کورٹس میں لوگ عمران کی محبت میں سزا کاٹ رہے ہیں، قیادت کو سیشن عدالت ، انسداد دہشت گردی عدالت سمیت ملٹری کورٹس سے کُل ملا کر ہزاروں سال سزائیں ہو چکی ہیں،
خواتین قیادت و ورکرز سزا یافتہ ہو کر صوبے بدر ہیں، گھر بے گھر ہیں،
لوگ کالے بالوں کے ساتھ جیلوں میں گئے، 2 سال بعد گھر پہنچے تو سفید بال، کندھے جُھکے ہوئے اور اپنی ٹانگوں پر چلنے میں دقت محسوس کرتے ہوئے دوبارہ عمران خان کے سیاسی نظریہ کے ساتھ ذندہ ہیں،
اوورسیز پاکستان آنے سے ڈرتے ہیں، پاسپورٹ بلاک اور نو فلائی لسٹ میں نام ہیں،
صحافی اپنی نوکریاں گنوا بیٹھے ہیں،
بچوں، نوجوانوں، بزرگوں سمیت خواتین نے بھی برابر کی اذیت جھیلی ہے،
نوجوانوں نے اپنی جوانیاں لُٹا دی ہیں،
نوجوانوں سمیت بزرگوں نے بھی اپنی جانیں ہتھیلی پر رکھ کر عمران خان کی حقیقی تحریک کو پیش کردی ہیں،
آپ نے جنازے اُٹھتے بھی دیکھے ہوں گے، ایک نوجوان بھائی شہید ہوگیا تو اُسکا دوسرا بھائی پی ٹی آئی کا جھنڈا تھامے میدان میں آگیا،
وزرائے اعلٰی سیاسی طور پر نا اہل ہوئے، ایم این ایز نے پارلیمنٹ کے اندر گریبان چاک کروائے،
قانون نافذ کرنے والے اداروں کے کانسٹیبل کی سطح کے ملازمین سابق وزرائے اعظم، وزرائے اعلی ، سمیت وفاقی وزراہ کو گریبان سے گھسیٹتے، تذلیل کرتے مناظر ہم نے خود اپنی آنکھوں سے دیکھے ہیں،
گزشتہ 2 سال سے اڈیالہ جیل کی گرمی سردی کی شدت برداشت کرتے ہوئے لوگ کم یا زیادہ ضرور موجود رہے ہیں، عمران خان کی قربانیوں کے سامنے شاید پی ٹی آئی کی قیادت و ورکرز اپنی قربانیاں نہ سمجھتی ہو لیکن بطور صحافت کے طالب علم ہم نے بھی کچھ نہ کچھ آنکھوں سے دیکھا ، پڑھا ، سُنا ہے، عینی شاہد ہیں،
جو جو حکم عمران خان سے منصوب کیا گیا، پاکستانی قوم نے ہر موقع پر اُسکی تعمیل کی،

ھور کی لوگ زہر کھا لین یا سارے نیپال چلے جان...؟؟

میں یہاں 10 ہزار ایسی باتیں لکھ سکتا ہوں جو 10 اپریل 2022 کے بعد رونما ہوئیں، لیکن پاکستانی قوم نے اپنی سوچ تبدیل نہ کی، لیکن آپ نے اپنی اِس 30 سیکنڈ کی گفتگو میں سب قربانیوں کو ٹکا ٹوکری کردیا،
یہ قوم بے حِس نے بلکہ 10 اپریل 2022 کے بعد قوم بنی ہے،
آپ اتنے سنئیر اور قابل احترام صحافی ہیں، ہم تو آپکو پڑھتے، سُنتے اور سیکھنے کی کوشش کرتے ہیں، لیکن آپ کی اس گفتگو پر اعتراض کرنے کی جسارت کی ہے،
