"Indifference elicits no response, Indifference is not a response. Indifference is not a beginning; it is an end. And, therefore, indifference is always the friend of the enemy, for it benefits the aggressor - never his victim, whose pain is magnified when he/she feels" @UN 1/3
#Ethiopia: #Tigray interim admin calls for urgent protection of Ethiopian refugees amid Sudanese civil war
In his latest social media update, Getachew Reda, President of the Tigray interim administration, emphasized the increasing threat posed by the Sudanese civil war to #Tenedba and #Um_Rakuba refugee camps in eastern #Sudan. These camps host thousands of refugees from Tigray and other parts of Ethiopia, facing exacerbated humanitarian challenges due to the conflict's proximity.
"The humanitarian situation in these camps has always been dire, but the encroaching conflict intensifies the distress," stated Getachew. He urged regional influencers and the international community to exert pressure on both warring factions to cease hostilities immediately and prioritize civilian protection. Additionally, he called upon the Ethiopian government to take decisive actions to alleviate the plight of its refugees.
In a recent report by Addis Standard in May 2024, concerns were raised about 170 former Ethiopian peacekeepers of Tigrayan origin currently residing in Um Gargour camp, Gedaref city, who are experiencing heightened security risks amidst the escalating Sudanese conflict.

In 2015 I met this Palestinian farmer, Abdel-Majeed, on the West Bank. Israeli settlers were attacking him and stealing his land, and I thought the situation was about as bad as it could get.
No, it has gotten much worse. I revisited him last week, during a week-long trip through Israel and the West Bank, and I found that settlers have burned his cars and destroyed his tractor. They have cut down his olive trees and set his sheep shed on fire. They tried to break into his house when his granddaughter was home. Now his wife is arguing that they should give up their home, for fear of being burned alive by settlers.
This is life on the West Bank today. It doesn't get as much attention as Gaza, but the situation is desperate. And the US is largely AWOL. I know it feels a long way away, but this is central to the Middle East crisis and is one reason I fear the crisis will get worse. Here's my report: https://t.co/3sQ0KsASPT
