- ESPN owns the sole media rights to the SEC and the CFP

- ESPN creates the SOS and SOR metrics that AP voters and CFP committee members use when ranking teams

- It benefits ESPN for SEC teams to be ranked higher during the season because higher ranked games = more TV ratings

- It benefits ESPN for larger brands to make the CFP because that also brings in more TV ratings

- Teams in the SEC are typically much larger brands
