“This verdict should not be seen as the end of the chapter, but rather as a beginning of many effective reforms. I still remember the words on the wall of that cage.” My Oped in the NYT about the happy news of our acquittal from the #NGOtrial today. https://t.co/KjgOvHyIsq
New from me in @guardian (👇). Trump is betting more pain will make Iran surrender. Tehran is betting it can outlast him while driving up the costs. Trump continues to gamble on escalation without a coherent strategy for what comes next.

Trump's Board of Snake Oil Salesmen🧵
After months of talking to mediators, EU diplomats, Palestinian negotiators, NCAG commissioners, CMCC... here's the bottom line:
1- Trump's Gaza plan is a scam
2- Board of Peace is a personal enrichment scheme
3- Israel will never leave Gaza unless dragged kicking & screaming
I told @RollingStone that the lesson in Tehran is that neither diplomacy nor a temporary ceasefire has yet produced durable restraint from Trump. That deepens the argument that Iran still has not established enough deterrence.
Iran’s doctrine is now shifting from primarily defensive deterrence toward a more offensive form of coercion. The thinking is that simply responding when the United States escalates is not enough.
Iran views the U.S. military infrastructure surrounding it as part of the problem. American bases across the Persian Gulf and the wider region are seen not as defensive installations, but as the architecture that makes repeated attacks on Iran possible. That is why Tehran has targeted U.S. bases so extensively: it wants to raise the cost of maintaining the military infrastructure that could enable the next war.
For Tehran, victory means survival, restored deterrence, a durable end to the war… and reducing the ability of the United States and Israel to launch another attack.
Washington may possess military supremacy, but Tehran believes it is fighting for survival. And the side that considers the war existential is often prepared to absorb costs that the more powerful but less committed adversary is not.

Congress will vote this week on a bill denying federal funding to universities that boycott Israel, Israeli companies or Israeli institutions, including those in settlements. It’s another effort to single out Israel for special treatment and erode Americans’ rights on its behalf.
BREAKING: Iran is launching ballistic missiles from all over the country, in a large-scale wave. So far, Tehran, Karaj, East Azerbaijan, Urmia, West Azerbaijan, Zanjan, Shiraz, Lorestan and Khorramabad.
Multiple explosions at the Muwaffaq Salti US base in Jordan minutes ago, the first target.
I seem to remember being told this was all about Tren de Aragua, Cartel de los Soles, and narco dictators. Looks like over 200 fishermen had to be killed so Trump’s cronies could get an oil deal.
As @NancyGEO and @MPaarlberg outlined, this is the beating hard of the "Donroe Doctrine," collaboration between reactionary governments allowing for extrajudicial killing, against the specter of the invented "narco-terrorist" https://t.co/hJkjfHozhx
The Trump administration is preparing to revoke the business and tourism visas of up to 200,000 people who have sought or are seeking asylum in the U.S. If carried out, it would be the largest single mass visa revocation in U.S. history.
“U.S. dominance over the international system does not protect its interests; on the contrary, it undermines them,” argue Executive Director @AudeDarnal and @CIPolicy President and CEO @NancyGEO in the upcoming book “A World for All: New Visions of US Foreign Policy,” edited by Matt Duss.
Their argument: legacy multilateral institutions like the UN face a crisis of legitimacy that symbolic reform can't fix. Real change means the U.S. and other dominant powers sharing decision-making power with lower-income countries — not fostering a system that only serves the most powerful nations.
Essential reading on the future of American foreign policy and the U.S. role in the world, with the midterms this year and the 2028 election ahead.

"Democratic scrutiny can expose the climate costs of extraction, contest land allocations and territorial interventions, demand transparency over contracts, and insist that resource wealth benefit the public."

BREAKING:
The Washington Post fired me last year for speaking the truth after Charlie Kirk's killing. I fought back.
I'm happy to announce: I won my case against the Washington Post.
They have been ordered to reinstate me immediately. ✊🏾

For more on the work of hemispheric solidarity against corruption and plunder, read @NancyGEO and @MPaarlberg in @commondreams on the Panamerican Congress against the "Donroe Doctrine" https://t.co/hJkjfHozhx
As @NancyGEO and I write, the involvement of Trump’s allies in the drug trade is fully compatible with the Donroe Doctrine. It is predicated on the breakdown of democratic institutions and rule of law, making the US the ultimate authority in the Americas. https://t.co/B0LEStctGh
As the Third Pan-American Congress convenes in Montevideo, @MPaarlberg and I argue in @commondreams that Latin America can resist Trump’s gunboat racketeering. The architecture is under construction; regional collaboration can keep it from hardening https://t.co/LxJTEREUMx
