5 years ago today, Beirut was devastated by the catastrophic port explosion.

Over 200 lives lost in seconds. Thousands injured. Homes destroyed. Lives forever changed.

All those who rushed to help, carrying the wounded, clearing shattered glass and rubble, and working tirelessly to rebuild their city, deserve deep respect and recognition.

My thoughts are with our NRC colleagues and everyone in Lebanon today.

Essential that those affected get justice and accountability.

بعد مرور 6 أشهر على وقف إطلاق النار ، لا تزال القرى الحدودية في #لبنان مهجورة وتغمرها أكوام من الركام. يتوق الناس للعودة، ولكنهم لا يزالون نازحين. يعيشون في حالة من عدم الاستقرار في ظل الهجمات المستمرة.

السلام والأمان ضروريان ليتمكن الناس من إعادة بناء حياتهم من جديد.

Today's withdrawal of Israeli forces from border villages in southern Lebanon means thousands of families can finally return to their homes and villages, some for the first time in more than a year. But the road for recovery remains long for the people of Lebanon.

Many are returning to nothing more than destruction. It is estimated that 100,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged. Unexploded bombs are grave risks to children.
