2000 CubeSats were surpassed in early 2023. It took close to 4 years to reach the second thousand, compared to almost 16 years for the first thousand.
First CubeSats: 2003-03-30
1000 CubeSats: 2018-12-16
2000 CubeSats: 2023-01-03
2323 Cubesats: 2023-12-31
A record 396 nanosatellites were launched in 2023! That is 365 CubeSats, 20 PocketQubes, 5 other nanosats and 6 other picosatellites. A few may be missing or unclear. @Planet again leads with 72, followed by Swarm with 24 and @Spire with 22 CubeSats. Almost 75% flew on Falcon-9.
@Skyrocket71@planet4589@Bubbinski Thanks for bringing attention to this! Don't think Ukraine was a typo from my side at the time of adding in 2020 but cannot find the source anymore and all the latest information does indeed point to the US. I will change it to the USA.
2019 was surprisingly low year with around 186 nanosats and #CubeSats launched. Far below most forecasts. However, expecting a new record in 2020 as the first batches of many new constellations are planned.
Latest https://t.co/aXgGvZumfH refresh complete. Started collecting photos captured by #CubeSats. I'm sure there are many more (w/o constellations), Attached is a beautiful @ESTCube-1 showcase. All visible here https://t.co/10VdJd3ycH, follow sources for even more.
1000 CubeSats have been launched! π It only took 15 years since 2003. Not all of them made it to orbit and a handful are unknown, but certainly over 1000 have been on a rocket.
2017 reached a new record of 295 launched nanosatellites including 287 CubeSats thanks to a great extent to @planetlabs (140), @SpireGlobal (46) and @QB50Mission (36). That is more than 2 previous years combined.
