Hezbollah doesn’t know how to respond to Israel. Neither does Iran. They are making the same old threats of Jihad and other equally stupid, antique ideas.

It is not just the exploding pagers, pen drives, walkie talkies and landline phones. The fear amongst the Hezbollah is…can we trust our washing machines and microwave ovens? What about our cars and lawn mowers? Will the TV explode while we are watching our favourite cartoon?

Here is a prediction - while all indicators are that there was massive local disaffection (and that’s true), this has been done because Sheikh Haseena wouldn’t toe the line. This coup is engineered by Beijing or another foreign power. This is not organic.

Iran says that the Hamas Chief was killed by short range projectile. Western media says Mossad placed a bomb in the safe house where Haniyeh was staying.

Why is Iran pushing the “projectile” theory?

In the West, if a guest is killed, it’s a crime. In some cultures, if a guest is killed inside the home of the host or while under his protection, it is a crime but more than that, it is a massive loss of face. A host who cannot protect his guest has no social standing left, no “face”. It is the ultimate insult.

This theory of a short-range projectile may or may not be true but it gives Iran some sort of face saving…they can say that the act took place from a distance.

Iran will never publicly accept that the elite Ansar al-Mahdi have been compromised. It cannot accept that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard has been penetrated. The hurt is not just the killing of Ismael Haniyeh. The real hurt is the shame that follows the killing. The self-appointed “fortress of Islam” has been breached.

In Muslim countries, the street (if not the rulers) looks upon Iran as the only Muslim country to take a stand against the Israel-US led West. Iran looks at itself as the only Muslim country to stand openly for Palestine, even if it means fighting against the rest of the world. The Islamic world is in a musalsal-jadd-o-jahad (continuous struggle) for the leadership of the Ummah. Saudi Arabia has Mecca & Medina. The Turks want to relive the Ottoman glory days. Iran militarily pushes the Palestine “cause”.

Israel is part of the Middle East. They understand these cultural nuances very well.

Haniyeh’s killing inside Iran was not just a punch meant to hurt. It was also a slap, meant to humiliate, to degrade…

And it is not just Israel that is celebrating. Some powerful Muslim countries are also popping the proverbial champagne.
