#Alert: Rapid response by law enforcement & CDPO in North 24 Parganas stops two cases of #childmarriage on the same day

Following a community awareness program, Shakti Vahini received information of two child marriage cases in the same village. While in one case, the marriage had already taken place, the other was scheduled to take place on the same day. With the help of swift & prompt action by the officials of Shashan P.S & CDPO, one marriage was stopped and an FIR was filed in the second case, where both bride and groom were underage as per the provisions of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.

Over the years, increased awareness among local communities regarding the legal implications of #childmarriage and its detrimental effects on girls' health, education, and overall well-being has led to wider recognition of the issue among the communities. They are now more inclined to identify it as a problem and report incidents. Additionally, sensitised government officials are now more proactive in addressing the practice as a crime and taking legal action, resulting in an increase in reporting of such cases.

With the commitment for #ChildMarriageFreeIndia, Shakti Vahini continues to engage with communities, policymakers and stakeholders to identify children at-risk of early marriages & with support of educational programs, is continuously undertaking efforts to ensure their rights to education, health and a safe future.
