L'industrie allemande -donc toute l'Allemagne- est en repli. Emblème, la Chine entre fortement dans le marché des voitures haut de gamme. Le gaz coûte nettement plus cher.
La seul issue est la survie via l'industrie de défense -qui ne sait pas tout faire.

🔸 Le fabricant d’armement KNDS critique le repli national de Berlin en matière de coopération militaire avec Paris. Son président, Tom Enders, dénonce notamment la volonté de l’Allemagne d’obtenir davantage de contrôle sur le groupe avant son entrée en Bourse.

Selon le Handelsblatt, Berlin envisagerait des droits de veto sur certaines propriétés intellectuelles de KNDS. Tom Enders juge cette approche « préoccupante » et compare ce traitement réservé à la France à celui appliqué à la Chine.

Ces tensions interviennent après l’échec du programme d’avion de combat SCAF et alors que l’avenir d’autres projets franco-allemands, comme le char du futur MGCS, suscite des interrogations. Berlin n’exclut désormais pas que ce programme débouche sur deux chars distincts, un pour chaque pays.

The biggest issue with Germany is panicking after 30 years of under-investment in defense.
Resulting in throwing billions of cash at the US industry, (F35, M9QB with P8, Patriot etc etc) and subsidizing the Bayerische industry.
No EU in this panic.

I think the biggest issue with the break up of FCAS is, that it shows us that France doesn’t take European defense seriously.

If you want to prepare for a European war, you don’t care about relative strength or national autonomy.

You want your allies and the common defense as strong as possible, because there is no case of an Russian attack on Europe in which French soldiers would fight without their German allies side by side.

That’s the reason why Germany never had a problem with being dependent on its allies - because they knew its better for them all.

The only case you DO need French autonomy is when your army is not for collective defense but acting as a great power (e.g. in Africa), it’s about prestige or your economy.

Tell me, which European war is France preparing for in which it can’t rely on Germany? There is none.

@FTusa284 The initial deal was 50/50 workshare with best athletes for project lead, D/MGCS and F/FCAS.
Workable.
By inserting SP in FCAS, D distorted this logic into an unmanageable "more imposed share = more lead" logic.
F error was allowing shenanigans from D.

Il me semble que la caractéristique principale de l'AdT française est la cohérence d'ensemble. Ainsi, au-delà de l'augmentation du nombre de tel ou tel matériel, c'est la montée en puissance de cette cohérence qu'il faut regarder.

This is precisely why the Eurofighter failed : no best athlete.
It has factually no new orders except from partner nations, which merely is subsidizing domestic jobs.
Persisting to deny it with a flawed narrative (blaming Dassault), is even more risky.

Dassault a simplement demandé le respect de la logique de départ : meilleurs athlètes, France sur SCAF et Allemagne sur MGCS.
Cela se verra.

@Bjoern__M France and Germany agreed that FCAS and MGCS should be based on best athlete : France on FCAS, Germany on MGCS.
France's error was to be too soft with Germany's shenanigans : introducing Rheinmetall in MGCS and Airbus Spain in FCAS, after the agreement.

The original FCAS Plan A was a cooperation between France and the UK. None of them wanted to deal with Germany.
What dramatically changed this perspective was Brexit.

What Schoellhorn eludes is, the key point is not the budget. It's the ability to deliver. Good luck.

Type 31 design makes an emphasis on lean crew, which French navy did on FREMM - but that was not too "lean" on crisis deployment (FREMM was crewed with 160 instead of 110).
The HR factor is key.

En 1982 Margaret Thatcher a dû mener sa guerre contre l'Argentine, sans l'OTAN.
