I'd love this to help shape WIL activities in my units and stay connected to industry. I guess visiting placement students is halfway there, but have to focus on the student; also timing is ~8 workplaces in 2 x 4-week periods so all bunched together.
3 years to the week when I was last in a lecture theatre, empty but livestreaming via Echo. Today I returned for my first hybrid lecture, using an OWL. 6 students in the room, 80 online in Collaborate, and 140 having a public holiday 🙂
I just completed "No Space Left On Device" - Day 7 - Advent of Code 2022 https://t.co/7hH2HsyGWM #AdventOfCode -- needed an extra day without afterschool activities to play with tree libraries 🎄
I just completed "Tuning Trouble" - Day 6 - Advent of Code 2022 https://t.co/Ub1vkMPeVQ #AdventOfCode -- bit late today due to other activities, probably my quickest solve yet based on when I read the puzzle.
I just completed "Calorie Counting" - Day 1 - Advent of Code 2022 https://t.co/kHq3Vn10Dt #AdventOfCode -- this year using Python. Slow start as didn't read submission instructions properly 😆
After some time away, I've returned to LinkedIn Learning. This course would be valuable to students undertaking team projects; although focused on industry teamwork, it contains some great tips on productive habits that can be practised in uni projects.

This @RMITOnline credential was a lot of work but very interesting. A scenario was provided and we went through the entire discovery phase (actors, process maps, requirements, risks etc.) in 6 weeks. Really enjoyed exploring a real-world problem! https://t.co/mM9fOG97nR
Despite enjoying a semester with no unit coordination duties, I offered to help 2 other convenors in week 12 and now I'm caught up in week 12 panic! Good luck to everyone for the end of semester!
Thanks to the 1800+ students and 20+ tutors (such as @RobustKite 👋) who worked with me over the past 5 years to improve the unit significantly. I really enjoyed delving into maths education and learning techniques I now use for other units!
I understand that COS10003 (a discrete maths and logic unit at Swin created by @swinfict if my history is correct) won't be offered from 2023 at Hawthorn; it wasn't core for this year's BCS intake so it's not a surprise. It *might* return, but probably won't.
The expectation for project teams/facilitators to organise meetings outside the timetable and workloaded as "prep time" for the workshop is a big ask esp. for PT academics. ICT Inquiry Proj will have tutorial/workshop model next year; team meetings will happen in the workshop.
Week 11 update: Used Calendly to reserve meeting timeslots and then manually booked a Teams meeting. Most facilitators went with Teams.
Only 18% of my expected team meetings actually occurred (2+ Ss, also had some 1 S meetings); forced bookings in wk7 was partially successful.
Am teaching into a CS/Eng unit on sem2 that requires 6 hours/week of student/team consultation in place of formal classes. Was planning to do this F2F but w/WFH recommendation am reconsidering. Any suggestions for best chat/collab tool or approach to use for remote consultation?
