@astrogrant So at some point the colleges and employers will learn. Either find a way to actually have the students learn without AI or the degree becomes worthless. And who will pay all that money for a degree employers decide is meaningless?
@astrogrant Maybe
Like anything there will be a shaking out. Having AI do your college courses for you may get you a grade and for now a degree. But it doesn’t get you an education, you don’t actually learn
Which means you won’t last long at the job your degree gets you
@IanCutress@TensordyneInc That’s the danger in a SW company making their own hardware. If things change then either they have inefficient expensive hardware or worse they stick with what their hardware can do for cost reasons and their competition without the HW burden leapfrog them
@MelissaLMRogers Now look and see that other world currencies are also falling against the US dollar - with Japan at the moment taking desperate measures to stop the yen’s decline
It’s not about Carney, it’s all about the US dollar always being seen as a safe haven in uncertain times
@MelissaLMRogers Why read the article when you can mislead with a headline
The headline $2.6b is the amount of money India committed to spending buying uranium from a Canadian company

So you are clearly out to lunch with your conspiracy theories
@imnonplussed@valigo And CUDA did not gain a foothold because AMD GPUs sucked
CUDA gained because Nvidia saw the future and bet the company on it
Nvidia had its own share of mistakes over the last 20 years of CUDA
@imnonplussed@valigo MIPS, SPARC, Alpha, Motorola, PowerPC all died because someone else (eventually Intel) breached the hardware moat
AMD twice before was “better” than Intel (first x86 to 1GHz, invented x64) yet still almost went bankrupt because being better wasn’t enough
@imnonplussed@valigo Because it’s not about the hardware
It is about the software
Nvidia dominates because of CUDA and their 15+ years of developing highly optimized libraries for their hardware
Intel (and to a lesser extent AMD) are struggling in the GPU market because they lack the SW side
@imnonplussed@valigo An easy position to take when you aren’t responsible for the continued existence of the company after spending the huge amount of money it takes to bring a modern GPU to market, and then spending even more to develop the highly optimized drivers and libraries that make it work
@FelixCLC_ But Starmer’s biggest problem was polls (and local election results which unfortunately are used as predictions) showed Farage and Reform winning big at the next election
So a reshuffle wasn’t going to be enough
@FelixCLC_ The UK at this point is ungovernable, largely thanks to Brexit and the damage it has done to their economy and the difficulties reversing that damage
Their debt is extremely high, tax rates are high, and public services are crumbling and military is in bad shape
@FelixCLC_ The result of that is anyone who becomes PM is handcuffed from the first day. The bond markets are shadow running the UK government and there is no easy way to solve the problems and make voters happy
Add in voter manipulation by online entities and voters are impatient
@IanCutress@Qualcomm@cristianoamon Hard for developers, open source or otherwise, to develop and test software for the data centre product when there are no decent Linux ARM machines available
Unless Qualcomm is hoping for the Nvidia laptop and desktop solution 😃
@IanCutress@Qualcomm@cristianoamon This will be interesting to watch
Given Qualcomm’s questionable Linux capabilities (many promises, definite failure to deliver with laptops) the idea of Qualcomm in the Linux dominated data centre will require a massive change by Qualcomm
@jonmasters@nvidia I will sort of agree, but sort of disagree
Android is, at least in how 98% of people experience it, proprietary and has no standards hence why non-Google forks struggle
Similarly while Apple does do standards it’s not necessary as the Apple Silicon hardware isn’t open
@jonmasters@nvidia Now obviously a platform like Windows, much like you did with RHEL, will require standards but that’s because they are controlled by people in a position to dictate terms, whether due to being proprietary (Windows) or OSS but based on paid support (RH)
