Hon.Magolo and the chairperson of Mental Health Paliamentary Group Hon.Macho pledged to present a motion to regulate social work in Uganda and to mobilise all their collegues to ensure speedy presentation of the bill to regulate social work.
Today,a delegation of 27 social workers from Israel led by our president @byamikes and capacity building officer @SsekateMary paid a visit to @Parliament_Ug to meet the speaker and share experiences on how social work is regulated in their own country.
While giving his remarks on behalf of social workers in Uganda, Our president @byamikes emphasised the on the urgent need to have a law through an act of paliament to streamline the quality of social service in Uganda and protect all social workers in Uganda.
Today @Parliament_Ug , I led a delegation of professional #Socialworkers from Israel to meet the speaker of parliament with an aim of sharing experiences and the value of regulated SW profession in the country. I resounded the need to to have a law through act of parliament.
Among other things, the delegation has toured the campus, met the dean of school of social sciences and met the department team led by Professor Eddy Walakira and the current Head of department Dr. Dennis Muhangi.
Today we kicked off cross-learning between social workers from Israel Union of Social Workers and social workers in Uganda ๐บ๐ฌ at @Makerere University Department of Social Work. All this coordinated by the @naswu_ secretariat led by our national coordinator @SsekateMary.
The next session in our Child Protection Social Work Practice Masterclass Series will explore how social workers can effectively manage conflict.

He added that in some universities some people are teaching social work a core subject at BA and Masters level yet they never studied SW and are ignorant of what SW profession stands for. He equated it to someone teaching medicine without any knowledge on anatomy.
Today NASWU participated in the Workshop organized by a inter-Universty Council for East Africa(@iucea_info) as part of the benchmarking process to standardize teaching of social work in East Africa community.
.@byamikes also talked about bringing all key stakeholders on board as we develop benchmarks, think about complaince with minimum standards including enforcement, need for regulations for high quality service delivery .
