So after reviewing fellowship applications, and helping review dozens of personal statements I have come to the conclusion that most of these have three main themes that are repeated

1) The curious case of a patient who is not the candidate yet I know more about him than the applicant

2) The personal or family tragedy that inspired your career in medicine/speciality

3) The brilliant hard worker who wanted to be a doctor since conception.

These are safe ideas 💡 but don’t offer any insights into what kind of a person our applicant is. Try giving it a personal touch. I wish you all the best in the upcoming recruitment season #Inside_TheMatch
