Wednesday, October 9: Ryan Davis & The Roadhouse Band (Louisville, KY) will have the night off from their tour with MJ Lenderman, but they’ve been so kind as to book a gig in Kansas City that evening. Local favorites Natalie Prauser and Nate Hofer open. Music at 8pm. $15 (PWYC).
Super-honored to have had the opportunity to speak at TEDxKC. If you're like me and you're into pedal steel guitar, drone photography and nuclear non-proliferation then you might dig this:

I donated to help Necia Gamby's recovery after her stroke. She’s been a pillar in Kansas City for 40 years. Please donate, like, comment, and share to spread the word and support her journey! #SupportNecia https://t.co/4C82km5v2i
Here we go. First single from the forthcoming EP album "Decommissioned" where I play pedal steel inside a missile silo.

Hello, friends. 🚀 I am proud to announce that I am partnering with @hammerpress in fundraising for the release of the solo experimental pedal steel guitar recordings I made at the Kansas missile silo in 2021.
@edhelms SNAFU S1 is my jam. Why? Because I take photos of the 600 decommissioned Minuteman missile silos in the Midwest and Great Plains Regions. It’s about reminding ourselves that we did used to know how to address global existential issues:

Russian strategic nuclear forces exercise appears to be scheduled for this week. Probably annual exercise Grom with ICBM, SLBM, bomber launches. Potentially also some non-strategic nuclear force activities.
Coinciding with NATO nuke exercise Steadfast Noon.
At Reykjavík in 1986, Reagan and Gorbachev imagined eliminating nuclear weapons in ten years. Gorbachev wondered whether he would live that long, Reagan said he counted on doing so.
Reagan died 18 years later; Gorbachev died today, 36 years later. The bomb is still with us.
I've played the US economic game reasonably well -- avoiding student debt, purchasing a home, drawing a high salary, etc. -- but I still support reforming our grossly unjust economic system because playing it sucks, precarity still lurks, and my kids will have it even worse.
Good friends at @agrayspace designed this game and now I am proud to be the 734th 😎 on @BackerKit for The Gig 🎺 The Dice-Rolling Jazz Game. Thanks @BraincrackGames https://t.co/rQUqA53rV7
One of my American listeners, @natehofer, has photographed hundreds of decommissioned Minuteman silos. Some are now used for hay bale storage, for cattle feed, as a church car park, or as a big open field with a solitary dog kennel in it.
