You have once again lived long enough to witness the Melee community turn on Mew2King for.. *checks notes* .. signing up for a tournament.
If this were Armada, PPMD, or any other retired legend, these people would be ripping open their velcro wallets in order to support their trip to this tournament. But because Jason is one of the only members of this community that actually has a backbone, and is willing to risk his personal image to call out the hypocrisy, the bullying, and the cult-like nature of the community - they gang up on him in order to delegitimize his standing within the community, as well as to ridicule anyone who would like to see Jason compete again.
Among these losers is Danny (@selfflagellate) of @meleestatspod who accuses Jason of grifting and "platforming drama tourists", and @aidencalvin
of Ludwig's coattails, who repeatedly tells Jason that he should be attending smaller local tournaments and involving himself in the scene more, before he enter himself into a larger tournament again.
It's worth pointing out that the head TO of Socal Smash is Gerry Cabalero (@gerrywastaken /@topshelfesports), who signed off on Hax's ban, so Aiden's advice is for Jason to involve himself in a community run by someone who unjustly banned his friend, if he wants to be accepted back into the community's good graces.
Jason did post a longform response in the thread (screenshot below), but it mostly fell on deaf ears. The mob had already decided that Jason had "fallen down the smash Qanon rabbit hole" and is undeserving of the privilege of this tournament.
The Super Smash Bros Melee community is a cult.
