My first conference paper as a contributing author is out! We (@sentientspeck, @DrChrisCombs) investigated surface temperature distributions on a vehicle model in a Mach 7.2 flow using temperature-sensitive paint, focusing on two different angles of attack, 0° and 5°.
Check it out here: https://t.co/y2UlhGyrsl
@sentientspeck@DrChrisCombs We compliment this study with the use of Schlieren images to help visualize many of the flow features that would otherwise be invisible. The first image highlights the leading-edge oblique shock clearly, while the second highlights the growing boundary layer.
@sentientspeck@DrChrisCombs Hypersonic vehicles are known to experience extreme temperatures and pressures due to shock waves. A key observation here is that the heat transfer is higher when the AoA is increased due to the formation of a stronger shock.
HYPERSONIC CYBERTRUCK
Over the break some of my students put a (scale) Tesla Cybertruck in our Mach 7 wind tunnel @UTSA
This video is “schlieren” visualization that shows the shock waves (white lines) and other flow structures
Put one on a Falcon 9 now @elonmusk? $TSLA
🚨I’M HIRING ANOTHER PHD STUDENT🚨
Targeted position to work on @NSF hypersonic jet in crossflow experiments starting Jan. 2024
If you’re interested, please email me your CV/resume (w GPA and/or GRE if possible) by July 25 for full consideration
Please RT! More info below
I’m graduating in a few weeks as a chem major and math minor. I trying everything I can to not to go to the chemistry master’s program and be ever confined to a biotech or pharma lab the rest of my life.
School isn’t too difficult; the professors give you a road map of how to succeed. When it comes to life with no road map, there’ll be more difficulties but also more potential.
For example, a phone. To make the phone someone needed to assemble the parts. To make the parts (ie. the battery) someone needed to mine the metals. To run the equipment needed for mining someone needed to mine the oil. The price can be traced back to (Cost of services)+(margin)
I read today about Airbnb so I’ll use it as an example. All the technology was already there; houses, phones, internet. It was just putting it all together and no one even thought of it. Even more broadly though- the ability to communicate with a device that fits in a pocket.
