RIP Dolly. She was a model American singer who embodied the love of the Great Smoky Mountain region—humble, patriotic, funny, and duty bound.

Thank you to the linemen, first responders, public service personnel, and citizen volunteers who have worked around the clock to help our community recover from the derecho.

Many have worked long hours in dangerous conditions clearing roads, removing trees, restoring power and essential services, responding to emergencies, and helping neighbors in need.

In Northwest Indiana, because of the widespread damage and power outages, we are going no holds barred.

For example, earlier this week the Indiana DOC and 71 National Guardsmen using heavy construction equipment cleared 350+ routes in the region to help NIPSCO with power restoration efforts.

All resources are deployed. We continue to fire on all cylinders for ALL areas of Indiana that need assistance.

Hoosier have been without power for 11 days in Northwest Indiana.

I have mobilized all available state agencies and resources to take unprecedented action to make it easier on utility crews by clearing debris and alleys and roadways.

I see our linemen and crews working long hours and I deeply appreciate that work.

This is not on them, or on hard working state employees who are clearing a path for crews to restore power.

NIPSCO needs to match the urgency of these men and women, and of Hoosier ratepayers.

Bring in more crews. Put every available resource into the field. Get creative. Get the job done.

Hoosiers have waited long enough.

Vice President J.D. Vance told the story of Kevin Flanagan: a computer programmer forced to train his foreign replacement just to collect severance. He did it.

On his last day, he packed up, walked to the parking lot, got in his truck, and shot himself.

That’s not free markets or even close to being humane. It's the very kind of policy that wrecked the heartland.

Last night I formally requested an expedited major disaster declaration for individual and public assistance for 54 counties from FEMA.

If granted, this declaration will mean significantly more resources to accelerate Indiana’s recovery from the recent severe weather. I will do everything in my power to ensure Hoosiers have the resources needed to recover.
