I know a lot of folks are going through hard times right now. As someone who’s had clinical depression since childhood, I want to share some of the things that I’ve found to be useful cheering-up tools, though they may not work for you just because they worked for me. 1/
Grad Students: Holiday break is upon us. Have you created a daily writing schedule or are you planning to lounge around in PJs under the auspices of self-care?
The academic job market comes down to hairline differences between candidates, similar to sports.
I’d choose wisely.
@q45513 @VisionaryVoid @historyinmemes Per my university geology courses and geologist/emergency management colleagues, Landsburg’s photos actually have saved lives, because they provided live-action, almost frame-by-frame evidence of this type of eruption. That data has since informed evacuation planning and
@EODHappyCaptain Question for you as someone who Knows-as-Lot-But-Is-Not: are you actually still a Captain after 15 years, or does it just work best as a social handle? If you are, I’m assuming it’s a choice you’ve made — what’s guided you in that decision?
@CancerInsider@ejgallagher1 What kind of prep do you use? Mine (bi-peg) always has to be dissolved in a litre of water and then consumed within a certain period of time, but I’ve always LONGED for a quick chug-and-done!
@CancerInsider This is so helpful! My GI doc never gives me enough of anything before/during procedure so I’m always awake, fully conscious and very painful/uncomfortable. I DO have control over prep though, so being able to do it more smoothly is a huge win. Thank you!
@KeraRolsen …omg. Stealing this idea to see if my supervisors are reading what I send them! (We have a history of me sending things for feedback and getting confusing responses or very generic ones)
@SketchLisa Which, ironically, reinforces the value! I wish more artists had that mindset/were in a position to be able to. I’m sure if people went long enough without any new art they’d cave in to fair pricing across the board!
@SketchLisa A lot of the artists I know either feel like they couldn’t possibly ask that much, that it would be an ‘outrageous’ sum, or they used to feel that way/were convinced of that.
It’s a very strange and humbling world we live in. I’m glad you know the value of your work!
@SketchLisa My trad art friends sometimes ask me for pricing advice because I had a reliable graphic design gig years ago; they’re always shocked when I tell them to make sure their art is priced at a point where they’d make more than minimum wage for the number of hours they spent on it.
The X logo looks like something I would have made in grade 4 or 5 when I first discovered photoshop and using masks to add grunge textures. And, alas, it only shows up when I search “Twitter” on my phone because I have an IFTTT set up. Is this what divorce feels like?
