Slowly chipping away at outputs from my @UHI_Research @BrydenCentre_EU PhD on #seabird use of tidal stream environments, including surprising "sub-findings". Just out: European shags probably eat more 🦀 than we thought! https://t.co/YZvxPisnfy
Hello #MASTSASM2024 attendees! If you'd like to voice your opinions on using animal tracking to inform how we designate/consent/manage/monitor marine (including offshore) renewable energy sites, please check out: https://t.co/HaNrRq9gxF
Thanks for your time! 🌊🐧🦭🐬🛰️
@mastscot
✒️ I've learned a lot from this mentorship program (& had fun doing it! 🤓); if you're at all interested in the "behind the scenes" of the journal publishing world, I recommend it! 👍
📝Curious about the world of scientific publishing & journal editing?
🌊ICES Journal of Marine Science offers early career scientists the opportunity to join their editorial board for a 12-24 month mentorship.
⏰Deadline to apply: 10 January 2025.

1/6 #BOUasm24#Sesh1 Global governments need to work together to ensure animal migrants that cross human borders are not cumulatively impacted by anthropogenic developments e.g. Net Zero infrastructure. Assessing the vulnerability of migrants to these developments is essential.
Researchers reviewed 149 studies on birds and drone use to see if drone speed, bird breeding status, bird size, and the distance between the drone and the bird impacted bird behavior. https://t.co/GselVkXpHK
Studies on the negative impacts of renewable energy infrastructure on birds in India are limited. This presentation aims to provide an overview of this issue based on the existing information. 1/6

But tracking data usage varies widely, with little to no standardization or best practice guidelines available. This can lead to its misuse, impeding reproducibility & interpretability for end-users!😕

These data often provide fine-scale, 3D insights into individual habitat use & behaviour; allowing assessments of species sensitivity/vulnerability to renewable energy developments, as well as risk of displacement, barrier effects, & collision.

Query: Is bird-borne tracking used appropriately in #RenewableEnergy decision-making & monitoring?
If your answer is anything but yes, this thread is for you!
(If your answer is yes I'd love to hear from you though!)

The emergence of affordable bird-borne biologging & telemetry devices has resulted in increasingly large tracking datasets. See for example the 1000’s of entries in https://t.co/R4HAcUZNbp & https://t.co/LYoXutTQp1 🐾
SMRU Instrumentation are recruiting for two exciting new roles. Experienced tech manager with a track record of leading a group? Researcher who has used animal-borne tags? For details see https://t.co/Lne81iOBdu @_SMRU_@SMRU_Consulting#nowhiring#jobsearch#marinecareers
📢📢 ETN community! We need your help! ETN is working on developing merch (😍🥳) with sales going to support ECR within the #tracking community. Have your say on the designs by voting for your top 3 species designs (by 20 June)! 😎👇
