@Riflemanscreed2 No way partial. Just thin one turn or swerve and poof out the window! or if you have a seat and buckled in then that is a different story !
I’m not back. But, I wanted to share Deanna’s Celebration of Life with you. It was tonight & I want her to be remembered.
I consider myself very rational & don’t believe in much beyond what I can physically prove. Nevertheless, when she passed away the experience shook me. I won’t recount it here.
Tonight, the kids & I headed to the party. I told Siri to navigate to the restaurant, up in the foothills, about 40 minutes away. She pulled up Google Maps & off we went.
Google had us pull of I-80 at 15th street in Sacramento. My screen doesn’t show very far ahead, so I assumed it had us jogging across streets to another freeway.
But, no. Just get off at 15th, stop at the light. Then “use the left lane to merge onto I-80”. We got off the highway to hit a light, then got back on.
That’s weird, but the thing is the 15th street exit is where I would get off to go to her house. Near the Tower Theater. I did it an awful lot & the scene is just so familiar, like something I did on autopilot. I haven’t done it but a few times since she died.
Again, I consider myself very rational. In my younger days, this is just a glitch I can easily explain. Maybe it does have an easy explanation I just am not aware of, bad programming. I’d offer that my brain just made it all up & I didn’t actually get those instructions from Google, but the kids were there & heard it, too.
I told a guy this at the party. He said “she made you stop & pick her up”.
I’m a rational person, but man that screws me up.
If I read this story from another account, I’d chalk it up to engagement bait. I’m already trying to take a break to reassess what I post & try not to get in trouble – and I immediately broke that pause a day later (I am actually going to go away a bit, but I have bad timing & would like Deanna to be remembered, so here I am, looking like a fool). Let’s be honest…this whole thing sounds like complete bullshit. If I read this, I’d be extremely suspicious.
And you have every right to be. I’m a little embarrassed to even suggest such a thing was nothing but a programming error, but it happened. I have no explanation & I kind of wonder if I’m full of shit, too. Except my kids watched it all happen. I’d prefer if they were also full of shit…that is an easier explanation & doesn’t leave open an unanswered question.
In any event, the party was wonderful & worthy of her. I feel good about it. Not like a debt was paid, but like I lived up to an obligation or had honor or something…not sure how to describe it, but doing it made me feel good, even if I still felt sad.
I’m going back into hibernation now, but please remember Deanna, even if you think I’m full of shit.
She was good. She was loved. She is missed.
Folks, I’ve been made aware that some of my posts are not in the public interest.
After listening to the argument, I agree.
I need to take some time to reassess how and what I post. My mission here is to try & educate the public about aviation & sometimes the military. These are my passions & I happen to have a journalism background.
I’ve at times gone about this in ways that are not productive. If I can’t achieve my mission in a way that is positive, then this account will need to shut down.
I’d rather not elaborate any further, but I’m aware that this is social media & many of you will speculate the airline has pressured me. That is not the case & I request we speculate no further.
As always, I am not now nor have I ever been a spokesperson for my airline. I have not been contacted & would like to keep it that way.
I’m doing this because I would like you to learn, and maybe inspire some. I consider my audience to be people who don’t know much about aviation. It’s not for fame…I have no intention of revealing my identity or going on a podcast or whatever. Nor is it for money; I haven’t accepted offers to partner or advertise & have no intention of doing so.
So, I must take some time away from social media. I hope to be back, but in a way that is productive & adds to my profession rather than detracts from it.
I don’t think it will be too long. In the interim…maybe occasionally lift that window shade & marvel at the wonders we have achieved. Or take a nap, your call. Either way, we’re going to get you to your destination safely.

It is with profound sadness the CHP announces the line-of-duty death of Officer Brian Liles of the Visalia Area. The 16-year CHP veteran, died following an on-duty traffic crash on SR-99 near Tipton on Sep. 28, 2026. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
For my audience that only casually follows aviation, here’s the story that’s mind-blowing for us geeks & will eventually become a much bigger story for the public.
The SR-71 is an icon. Elon Musk named one of his kids after the precursor to it. Every fanboy knows it & visiting one at a museum is awe-inspiring.
Bringing one back to flying condition is something I never thought possible. On retirement, most jets are given to a museum in a way the military could conceivably return them to service, but some are deliberately disabled. The SR-71 was one of the latter.
Except, apparently, for one. One that was pulled from display a few years ago. And now we hear they quietly recruited people that used to work on it, presumably to return it to flight.
It’s like hearing that we’ve gone to Alabama & decided to rebuild the Saturn V rocket on display, we’ll pull an Apollo capsule from a museum & we’re going back to the moon.
This will be a huge undertaking, but if true & they restore one to flight…I will fight like hell to be at the maiden flight.
In that regard, since I don’t know where to actually submit an application, I am hereby formally tossing my hat in the ring to fly it. For my country.
