Good news! My heron photo was accepted by Utah State University for their local artist exhibition, June 30 - August 7. My first gallery exhibition. I’m so excited.
All our thoughts are with the people of Lytton and surrounding communities who have already been through so much.
Thank you to the crews and first responders fighting the fire and supporting people tonight.
James Burrows, the co-creator of "Cheers" who reigned as television’s preeminent sitcom director for more than 30 years, died on Friday. He was 85. https://t.co/drWXrDuZlE
Alberta’s public health-care system is being steadily eroded by the UCP government as they barrel forward with their plans to introduce a two-tier, American-style, for-profit system here in our province. It’s not just wrong, it’s incompetent, because it will do nothing to improve services for Albertans.
Today, I sent a letter to Prime Minister Carney, calling on the Government of Canada to intervene under the Canada Health Act and protect public health care in Alberta.
Barack and I had so much fun reading Where the Wild Things Are – a family favorite – in the new Chicago Public Library branch at the Obama Presidential Center. Check it out! 📚
To George and Laura, Bill and Hillary — we're grateful for your friendship, counsel, and devotion to this country. And to Joe and Jill, thank you for being on this journey with us.
This is HUGE news.
PhD astronomer and former NASA engineer Ivo Busko has single-handedly driven a final nail into the coffin of the contamination-based hypotheses (e.g. plate defects and cosmic rays) proposed to explain the VASCO transients. He did so using one of the most creative approaches in astronomy I have ever seen: by analysing pre-Sputnik photographic plates from a German telescope known to suffer from severe optical distortions (aberrations), he demonstrated that the transients appear on these plates and exhibit the same optical distortions as the stars themselves. They are slightly narrower and sharper than the stars, consistent with brief flashes.
This is a crucial result. It shows that the transient light passed through the telescope optics, meaning the transients originate from real objects producing light, rather than from plate defects or cosmic-ray contamination that hit the plate. Dr Busko has also shown that the transients cluster spatially and are associated with periods close to nuclear tests. See the example of the triple transient with optical comas.
This is the greatest gift. Congratulations, Ivo.
I'm happy beyond belief.

Sarah Michelle Gellar pays tribute to her "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" co-star Anthony Head following his death:
"'Tell Giles I figured it out and I’m ok’ Well I don’t have it figured out and I’m not ok. But I know I’m the lucky one because I knew you. Thank you to Daisy and Emily who not only shared their dad with me, but with the world."

Thanks for posting. I think this witness is a little ahead of his time in terms of what people were ready to hear. I remind folks that he is still the main neurosurgeon. He has nothing to sell everything to lose and very little to gain — not asking a time for his story. We tracked him down and eventually got into share his truth.
"Hurt" is not an original by Johnny Cash. The song was written by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) in 1994 for the album The Downward Spiral. Rick Rubin had to insist several times on Cash recording his version, at first Johnny found the idea completely insane because the original version is industrial and noisy. At 71, already very ill, almost blind and with trembling hands, Cash completely transformed the band.
The iconic video, directed by Mark Romanek, was filmed at the House of Cash (his own museum). June Carter Cash appears looking at him fondly, the video was shot in February 2003, a few months before she died (May) and Johnny himself (September).
Trent Reznor was so moved that he declared, "This song is not mine anymore." It is considered one of the best covers of all time.
Canada joins the IAEA in condemning today’s drone attacks on the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE. Targeting peaceful nuclear energy facilities poses grave risks to human life and the environment. Canada stands by its friends in the UAE and reiterates the urgent need for restraint and de-escalation in the region.
Stephen Colbert was awarded the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award for his advocacy for free speech and speaking truth to power. A fitting honor for a champion of our democracy.
RETWEET to congratulate Colbert on this honor!
Conservatives keep trafficking in misinformation for political gain, no matter the cost.
No Canadian has ever lost private property due to a modern treaty.
We’ll keep defending property rights and fighting the Cowichan decision in court, where these discussions belong.
Congratulations to the people of Mexico. Canada wishes you great success in providing equal healthcare to all of your citizens. Without health it is difficult to be productive, enjoy your life and contribute to the nation.
Rempel. Lives in the US full time. Is married to an American. Only comes to Canada to collect a pay cheque. She needs to shut her pie hole. Vote Rempel out Calgary Nose Hill the first chance you get, she’s nothing but a grifter Republican wannabe.
First off, Mark Carney didn't ban booze, Premiers did. Mark Carney didn't ban anyone from visiting the US, the people just stopped going. The boycott won't end when Mark Carney or Pierre Poilievre says so. It will end when the people decide to end it.
Rep. Suhas Subramanyam: "Howard Lutnick should resign. That was just absolutely mind-boggling what we just heard in that room. He was evasive, nervous, and dishonest."
