We were so thrilled to have Justice Earls join us at the Green Tie Awards this month to talk about the importance of having an independent judiciary that can hold our legislature accountable, protect our rights, and ensure equal justice for all #ncpol
On top of a proposed 15% rate hike, Duke Energy is now asking North Carolinians to foot the bill for an additional $800 million in increased fuel costs. I vetoed Senate Bill 266 for exactly this reason: because it would further expose North Carolina ratepayers to volatile fuel markets and shift the cost of electricity from large industrial users onto the backs of regular people, making your utility bills more expensive. Republican legislators knew this too – but still left North Carolinians holding the bag. The Utilities Commission should step in to secure an affordable energy future for North Carolinians. We must do everything we can to make life more affordable for families, not more expensive.
North Carolina is leading the way in building a clean energy economy that creates good-paying jobs and keeps costs down for families. I look forward to continuing to work with business leaders across the state to make sure North Carolina is ready for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
I’ll continue pushing to build an energy system that’s affordable, reliable, resilient, and sustainable, and I look forward to working with businesses across the state to keep leading the way into the clean energy future.
Call the NC Utilities Commission at 919-733-7328 and tell them they must reign in Duke Energy’s greed and stop this rate hike! Hardworking NC families deserve better.
Duke Energy wants to raise customer energy bills by 18% — approximately $34/month for the average customer — over the next two years. This is on top of fuel costs that are expected to rise as the war in Iran rages on.
@WRAL
Instead of investing in expensive, dirty fossil fuels, Duke should be investing in the cheapest, cleanest sources of energy: wind and solar. These clean energy sources are the quickest way to add energy to our grid AND do not require volatile fuel costs.
The NC Utilities Commission — at Duke Energy’s request (according to security) — is barring anyone with an electronic device from entering the hearing room for Duke’s public rate case proceedings in Lumberton. Including media, who have been turned away. #ncpol
Money is tight for most of us... not for Duke Energy. Thanks to buying lawmaker loyalty, taking a bigger cut each year, and polluting in the name of profit they’re making more money than ever. They’re asking for more, but this time, NC is taking a stand. #nc#no2ratehikes@nclcv
NCLCV and Conservation Votes PAC worked to hold anti-environment Democrats accountable, and voters sent a clear message: lower our energy bills and protect our environment. Read more ⬇️ https://t.co/HOQf5ScChS
🔋Energy Saver NC is now available in all 100 counties to help families get real money back for upgrading appliances AND lower their utility bills by up to $1,000.
We can build a sustainable energy future and help families cut costs at the same time.
A big thank you to the 100+ North Carolinians who added their story to the "Costs We Carry" book to be delivered to lawmakers. We're proud to stand with the other organizations in the Coalition Against Right-Wing Extremism (CARE). #ncpol#carenc

⚡️Most consumers will see their electricity bills climb even higher. New research from @amprog and @NRDC finds that 65% of electric utility customers across 49 states + DC face rising rates within two years. 💸 https://t.co/2AfLEEwgMT
North Carolinians know firsthand the devastating impact of climate-fueled extreme weather.
Thank you @SenWhitehouse & @RepDeborahRoss for leading a roundtable with @nclcv & EJ partners to expose how the climate crisis makes homeowners' insurance less affordable & accessible 👇
Climate change isn't just about melting icebergs. It's also about higher costs for homeowners' insurance.
Renters and homeowners from Rhode Island to North Carolina and beyond know this. Thanks to @SenWhitehouse for visiting NC to talk about the cost of climate change. @EPWCmte
