I was just refused entry to Hong Kong. After 13 sleepless hours under immigration examination in the middle of the night, I was told that I could not enter the city and was eventually allowed to take a plane to Vietnam, where I planned to go only in a couple of days.
Concerned by reports the largest China research institute in the UK, KCL's Lau China Institute, is 99% funded by a Hong Kong donor with close links to the CCP, Mr Lau Ming-wai.
Despite multiple Freedom of Information requests, KCL has refused to disclose the terms and conditions attached to these donations, or the extent of Mr Lau's influence over the Institute's operations and research agenda.
Given the growing threats to academic freedom and national security posed by the CCP, it's clear that transparancy and accountability measures for donations to UK universities should be reviewed.

A bunch of 🇨🇳-waving Chinese, apparently from a 🇨🇳 TV broadcaster, told pianist Brendan Kavanagh — who regularly live-streams his performances on public pianos in public venues — to stop showing their faces in his live-streaming while he’s playing the piano in a shopping mall in London on Jan 19 because showing their faces — their image rights — isn’t allowed under 🇨🇳 law… did this group of 🇨🇳 nationals — one of the women claims she’s British — think London is part of China?
The 🇨🇳 man shown in the pics even yelled at Brendan accusing him of touching one of the women when Brendan merely touched the 🇨🇳 she was holding…
Why didn’t they simply walk farther away from the piano?
