Acknowledging that our system insufficiently supports new families (and those who want to start a family), that it bears the vestiges of racism, sexism, and ablism, that we need new social infrastructures to support parenting as a human right, is just one approach we could take.
We need to do better. Parenting is not easy, but it does not need to be harder. For anyone. Paid leave is a start. 6 months of paid leave is better. 12 months, even more.
