Stina Krist (@stinarae2) presenting some work from our NSF project and giving a little preview of a paper we are working on that describes new approaches for analyzing classroom audiovisual data. #isls2023
Panel on the research opportunities for generative AI. Brian Smith reminding us that tools like this always exist within a socio-technical system. #isls2023
Made our session hybrid this morning and I think it went really well! Big thanks to the on-site tech support for ensuring the set-up went smoothly. Everyone was able to present their work and answer questions live. #isls2023
Great presentation by @stinarae2 on the work we’ve been doing in the TCA^2 lab — using audio features to help find indicators of uncertainty! #ISLS2023@ISLS2023
@vickiebananas At the start of this keynote, with the room being empty before this, it’s at around 860. Not terrible, but it will go up I’m sure with a packed room.
I’m not in Montreal & just found out I can’t present b/c “personal laptops cannot be connected” during the meeting so my co-authors will have to present without me despite the Herculean efforts of @tannervea, @learnsolidarity & @DrSurajUttam. This is beyond disappointing #ISLS23
@nrholbert Yeah it’s going to be a multi-year DBR process. Definitely need to consider costs and resources needed (including people and training) in order to do it well. But it’s a necessary problem to solve.
I’m chairing a session at #ISLS2023, a short paper session in the CSCL track. As of this morning, 3 of the 4 presenters, including one of my students, will be unable to be there in person due to delays in visa processing (the conference is in Montreal).🧵

I totally resonate with your thoughts even though I am not attending #ISLS2023 myself. I have some friends and colleagues in Germany, Finland and India who were not able to attend the @ISLS2023 conference because of visa delays. The organizers should have a hybrid option in 2023!
The resistance to planning for robust hybrid options in any area of higherEd is embarrassing & out of touch these days; it’s esp. shameful for an organization that claims to be leaders in design + equity. Plus, tone and messaging abt it for #ISLS2023 has been truly condescending.
There is a new sub-committee in ISLS that is focused on designing hybrid engagement for the annual meetings, and I’m happy to be a part of that to work for sustainable change in how & who gets to participate in our learning sciences community.
