I'm freaking out over this lucky shot, in ~80 other attempts I never got more than a leg in frame despite the small cloud of treehole mosquitoes surrounding me.
Male Aedes sierrensis in flight
@Mozziebites@MosquitoLab It's a must-have for chicken owners, mine have become so tuned into the sound of it that they come running over at full speed when they hear me pull the slide to ready a shot!
Being bitten by mosquitoes in your backyard at the moment? It’s probably this lady, Aedes notoscriptus. Tip out, throw away, or screen up any water holding containers this weekend to stop more emerging just in time for festive season holidays! #keepmozziesaway#mozziesofsydney
@megsquitophd D'oh! I feel like you maybe have tweeted about that before, maybe that's why belize came to mind. Well clearly you have good taste in destinations so i look forward to someday copying whatever you decide!
Any mite people out there know what this little weirdo is?
Picked it up tick flagging in CA Oak woodland habitat. About the size of an Ixodes pacificus nymph. So spiny!

Thank you Canberra! Look who was in last week's mosquito trapping collections, Aedes silvestris. This is the first time I have ever collected this species! A big beautiful mozzie found in woodland areas🦟
This is a mosquito (Aedes vittiger) that draws plenty of attention. It is large and will bite during the day and can be very common in spring after flooding. Will probably be more of these around in coming weeks.
Another of the mosquitoes generally referred to as "floodwater mosquitoes", Aedes bancroftianus. Common during spring following flooding and we're starting to see these at a few locations in western NSW.
