1. Our two “Operational” SSBNs (from a fleet of 4 x Deterrent Submarines) are having to do 6 months Deterrent Patrols. Three times longer than they were designed to do. 6 months away from the UK without surfacing or making ANY CONTACT WITH Home!
2. We have NONE of our Five ASTUTE Class SSNs ( Fast Attack Submarines) at sea. ALL are stuck alongside, waiting for essential dry dock availability, some for one to two years, so far!
3. We have only 6 x Type 45 destroyers and now only 5 x Type 23 Frigates. A paltry total of 11 escorts. Most of these are also tied up alongside in maintenance or repair. Their recent availability to respond to urgent calls to defend UK interests abroad has been disgracefully inadequate.
4. The combined effects of all this on manpower training and operational “sharpness” is catastrophic, as too is our ability to train and grow our future commanding officers and senior officers due to a total absence of SEA TIME!
5. As well as that, we have two aircraft carriers. Since build, their operational availability has been shocking. We currently don’t have enough carrier operational fast jets to fully complement one carrier, let alone two, and manpower shortages make it impossible to fully crew both carriers at the same time.
6. Our Royal Fleet Auxiliary tankers and ammunition and store ship numbers are also seriously depleted.
7. As a consequence of all of the above, The Royal Navy no longer has the size or capability, or manpower to mount an Exclusively RN Task Force, either ASW, or Amphibious, or for Overseas Interdiction. It can only do so with very significant high level contributions from other Allied Navies.

So, @wesstreeting , UK Defence Secretary, as far as the Royal Navy is concerned, as a DIRECT RESULT of ATROCIOUS Top Level Politico/ Military Funding Decisions taken over the last two decades, and effecting the ordering, procurement, building, manning, training, docking, maintenance and repair considerations of the entire Royal Navy, since the end of the Cold War:-

THE ROYAL NAVY IS MOST CERTAINLY NOT READY FOR WAR NOW. AND WITHOUT IMMEDIATE AND SIZEABLE INVESTMENT, IT CANNOT BE FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT TEN YEARS!
