60-64 yaş arası 31.268 erkek, 7 yıl boyunca izlendi.
Kapsamlı kardiyovasküler tarama (CT ile koroner kalsiyum, anevrizma, AF, periferik damar hastalığı, tansiyon, şeker ve kolesterol) yapılan grupta statin kullanımı %44,33’e çıktı; tarama yapılmayan grupta bu oran %30,25 kaldı.
▶ Ölümlerde anlamlı azalma yok.
▶ Kalp-damar olaylarında (MACE) anlamlı azalma yok
▶ Ciddi kanama riski ise arttı
“Statinler hayat kurtarır” söylemine rağmen, bu büyük çalışmada tarama + daha fazla statin ne ölümü ne de olayları azalttı.

Cholesterol has spent a century being blamed for a disease that has never once turned up in the veins it flows through.

Your blood carries the same LDL through every vessel you own. Same particles, same number of them, same cholesterol inside. It passes through the arteries and it passes through the veins, and the veins are clean. Every vein, in every body, on every slab. Nobody has ever been treated for a plaque in a vein.

The pulmonary arteries carry it too, at a fifth of the pressure, and they stay clean as well.

Long straight stretches with smooth flow are spared, carrying the same LDL past them all day.

So the disease follows pressure and turbulence and injury, not concentration. The lining gets battered where the flow batters it, particles get in through the damage, and what happens next depends on what the particle is made of and whether it can catch fire.

The cholesterol was in the vein the whole time, minding its own business.

The next time someone tells you a number in your blood is what clogs an artery, ask why the number does nothing in the pipe next door.
