"The Post proudly adopted the motto “democracy dies in darkness” after Trump was first elected. Now the paper is an exhibit of his attempts to smother democracy in broad daylight." My Swamp Notes with Chris Grimes on oligarch destruction of US media. https://t.co/HFbhM1EYtn
Let me get this playbook straight: sully a great institution, hide from staff, float goofy ways to revive it, then retreat, then gut it, then make the editor eat all the shit in public, slink off to the Super Bowl, get spotted and summarily ousted.
What shocks me most is how much this relatively small group of men knew each other. It is not an exaggeration to call this an elite cabal and there is no evidence they’ve disbanded.
INDICATOR? "“I’m trying to do a focus group tonight with undecided voters under the age of 27 for a major news outlet. And I can’t recruit young women to this, because they don’t exist as undecided voters.” @FrankLuntz@thehill
INDICATOR? "One long-time Dem consultant, who is involved with key Calif House races, told me they recently organized a film shoot for one of their candidates and “had more volunteers than I knew what to do with. I never really had that problem before.” @MZanona@PunchbowlNews
@NYT On his pod, @ezraklein with @NateSilver538 showed how fever-pitch emotion escapes polling metrics. Will @NYT learn from its own reporting? Or just over-index on old methods, that have failed us before? Hey, @Nate_Cohn, how about treating this election like it might be the last?
