@wayfaringwilly Also, folks watched flocks of shorebirds and seabirds leaving the Arctic to see which direction they flew. I started digging into the old jaeger records from cruises and coastal stations and lots of them report "scores flying west (or east) over sea"
@wayfaringwilly Oceanography cruises in the 1800s! This 1950s paper is nice summary https://t.co/8DBa4v3ahC Author Susan Scholander was married to pioneering marine mammal physiologist Per Scholander and the daughter of another famous physiologist Laurence Irving. Big names in my comps :)
In honor of #WorldMigratoryBirdDay, check out the story of two satellite-tagged long-tailed jaegers, named by the MCP team as Idita and Rod, on their migration back to their breeding site along the #Iditarod Trail in Nome, Alaska
Fascinating multi-generational take on the ⬆️ & ⬇️of learning to #track#animals. Hear from 60s grad student Harry Reynolds who tracked the 1st elk by 🛰️, interpretation by Lacey Hughey, who studies mammals today, and insight on new methods like Icarus! https://t.co/BlqZrPVvba

Our social-ecological evidenced-based principles should be valuable to all biodiversity conservation on private lands.
Today I was asked by a #scientist attending #COP15 how they could engage most effectively. I understand the uncertainty about how to do this well. It is a big meeting with different layers and so many events.
