.@NYC_DOT why are traffic signals at 155th and edgecombe/st Nicholas pl *blinking* instead of functioning properly? It’s chaotic! Unsafe to cross. Can you send a traffic cop to direct traffic or something?

At @Columbia for Inauguration Day, where Shafik makes history as the first female university president. We have a special message. Please do better.

#MichelleYeoh in her #Oscars acceptance speech: “Ladies, don’t let anybody tell you you are ever past your prime. Never give up.” 👏🏿
Cynthia Pong @EmbraceNYC drops gems about how this applies to #WOC in their careers in @HuffPost @HuffPostWomen

[HuffPost @HuffPost]

Too many career women are held back because of ageism. Yeoh's words are the encouragement we could all use. https://t.co/62K9Tvxg7E

[Bryan Carmody @jbcarmody]

Lemme flesh out the argument here since some respondents and QT’ers seem to be missing the point.

It’s not just “greedy insurance companies are making health care expensive!”

It’s that *we built a system that incentivizes insurers to systematically ⬆️ health care costs.*

THREAD. One of the biggest political scandals of our time is coming to a head today. Democratic leaders just announced they will vote with the far-right to overturn a democratically passed DC law. The story is important, and full of weird lies.

Non-compete clauses

[Dr. Danny @neghassi]

Biden distanced himself from trump on these issues while campaigning. And here we are, big fucking surprise

[ACLU @ACLU]

BREAKING: The Biden administration proposed a rule that would unlawfully deny asylum to people at the southern border who don't first seek safety in Mexico or other countries they passed through — despite the fact that these countries don't have working asylum systems.

Preparing for the meetings for the rest of the day

THREAD. Two Harvard professors published an academic article calling for 500,000 more armed cops, who they say will arrest 7.8 million more people per year. The article reveals alarming flaws in elite academia at a time of rising fascism. This is one of my most important posts.

[uché blackstock, md @uche_blackstock]

A study out earlier this year suggested that Medicaid expansions led to reduced police arrests, particularly drug-related arrests. Per the authors, "greater insurance coverage creates new avenues for individuals to seek care, receive treatment, and avoid criminalization."

THIS needs coverage, not a foreign monarch’s funeral

[BrooklynDad_Defiant!☮️ @mmpadellan]

This is HILARIOUS!

Republican Jesus is the funniest thing you will see on this site ALL DAY. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Also, as a non-confrontational person, I reserve the right to judge others silently for not wearing a mask properly or at all.

[Dr. Danny @neghassi]

I saw this graphic in response to today’s mask-optional announcement and could have SWORN that the graphic was a spoof. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT OF MIND WOULD SEE SOMEONE WITH A MASK OVER THEIR NOSE BUT NOT THEIR MOUTH AND SAY “YOU DO YOU”??? IN AN OFFICIAL TWEET?!?!

[Governor Kathy Hochul @GovKathyHochul]

Starting today, masks will be optional in some places where they had previously been required, including on mass transit.

[Dr. Danny @neghassi]

3) This legal challenge is based on some of the same arguments that hampered the EPA in the recent SCOTUS decision, so many are worried that this lawsuit will prevail. Eventually, Congress will have to get its shit together and strengthen the ACA. (Or expand the court!)

[Dr. Danny @neghassi]

🧵 ACA preventative care is being challenged. One plaintiff says he doesn’t need insurance w/ contraceptive coverage bc his wife is past child-bearing age & as a Christian, he’s unwilling to subsidize drugs like Truvada/PrEP that encourage homosexual behavior & IV drug use.

[Eugene Scott @Eugene_Scott]

The case of Kelley v. Becerra threatens to undermine one of the most popular provisions in the ACA. If the judge rules in favor of the plaintiffs, access to free birth control, vaccines, PrEP and many more preventive services would be in jeopardy. https://t.co/cHbaWfUlAb

[Dr. Danny @neghassi]

2) PrEP and birth control don’t encourage certain behaviors but instead are taken by responsible people to lower risks of undesired outcomes. These are best decided between a patient and their healthcare professionals.
