@SatellasChair@AI_EmeraldApple A better question is why are YOU engaging in cyberbullying? Why are to admitting to behaviors that most people know better than to acknowledge? I suck at Poker and bluffing, but even I know not to show all of your cards before the final bet is placed.
I ask people to consider this: Is 30 years after the movies long enough for the IP to enter Public Domain? Or must we all wait 100 years as the franchises wither and die under poor stewardship?
The Malfoid fan-fics have got me thinking about Copyright Protections. This is going to be a multi-part rant.
Some background. The original US law passed in 1790 gave 14 year protection with just one renewal for 14 years. This was established in response to the printing press
Too long we have seen beloved IPs ruined because of corporate control of Copyright. Their monopoly stifles the creativity such as we have seen with Malfoid fanfics. Not even "Approval of God" wherein an original author approves and endorses fan ideas and theories can help.
"Word of God" is respected in large part because of copyright and the value people place in the original creator as adjudicator of the stories they tell. When the original author passes, Public Domain protects and immortalizes what they created.
So you ask, why does this matter to Malfoid movement? Because what is going on with her is the same as the evolution of the Robin Hood and King Arthur legends. The Hogwarts sagas are experiencing what is called "Death of the Author" in the literary sense.
More recently, Azeem the Arab didn't exist before 1980. But his role, particularly as realized by Morgan Freeman has become part of the mythos because his addition doesn't overshadow the MC. Further, it doesn't upstage the classic members of the Sherwood cohort.
Robin Hood is even more interesting. Maid Marion was mostly a minor background character early on. It wasn't really until the 1800s when she became a more central figure, her stories connected to Guy of Gisborne. The Maid Marion we know now is mostly a product of Tinseltown.
Most of the Early King Arthur stories featured Sir Gawain as the focus. Later Lancelot took center stage, only to be upstaged by Sir Galahan. Le Mort de Arthur was written long after the legends were already well established.
Now contrast that with Public Domain material such as King Arthur, Robin Hood, or many others such as historic figures.
Over time (centuries for King Arthur legends, decades for Robin Hood), those stories expanded, with new creators ADDDING to the mythos.
The monopoly on IPs now mean that our cultural touchstones of the times are locked out. People of the time cannot build on the foundation which became popular.
Thanks to Disney lobbying, the "protections" have expanded from that 14+14 to over 100 years, long after the death of the original creators of IPs. The laws now protect the very monied interests they were mean to stop.
The press allowed monied interests to mass produce literature. An example would be the East India Trading company stealing Poor Richard's Almanac and re-distribute it cheaper than Franklin's own.
@SatellasChair@AI_EmeraldApple That is actually creepy stalker behavior by those who are terminally online. It is the same kind of people who bullied Yuna.
I think you need to take a long hard look in the mirror.
@SatellasChair@AI_EmeraldApple I have a son who read it.
Why are YOU so obsessed? Why do people like you have to spoil the fun for everyone because it doesn't fit your myopic view?
I don't like everything I see in the Malfoid fandom, but that doesn't mean I need to deny other's their fun.
