🧠 Nearly one million people live with dementia in the UK - a number expected to rise sharply over the next 15 years. Clinical trials are essential to improving care, but too few people have been able to take part.
The Dementia Trials Accelerator, spearheaded by HDR UK and the @UKDRI, has taken a major step toward increasing participation in dementia clinical trials across the UK.
A selection of participants from the REACT study at @imperialcollege have been invited to the initial clinics, delivered by Inuvi, for vital measurements that will make them ‘trial-ready’ for future dementia research opportunities. Funded by the @The_MRC, this work supports the government’s Dame Barbara Windsor Dementia Goals programme.

After a slight delay.. our new article:
Current status and future perspectives on the mechanistic and pathophysiological understanding of long COVID

Dass Covid den Gehirnstoffwechsel beschädigen kann, auch bei leichteren Verläufen, ist lange bekannt. Das will in Deutschland kaum jemand hören. Konzept ist „tot oder genesen“. Aber bei Kindern sollten wir so fair sein, jede unnötige Infektion zu vermeiden https://t.co/E0LhXlqxSg
Privileged to be part of the Dementia Trials Accelerator - a fantastic collaboration between @HDR_UK ; @UKDRI ; Inuvi; @imperialcollege REACT cohort; @alzheimerssoc and many more, to help more UK participants get access to and support clinical trials for #dementia

The pandemic might be over, but new research indicates long Covid is likely to reverberate across OECD economies, costing up to $135 billion a year over the next decade. https://t.co/LT9ZvK5Vx9
We've seen the Shingles vaccine is linked with reduced risk of Alzheimer's and dementias in 4 large natural experiments.
Today, the potential of high-dose flu vaccines vs standard dose for the same in a large retrospective age 65+ cohort [N>160,000). More pronounced in women (like Shingles vaccine)

Karolinska Institutet, 1,217,693 adults. Long COVID was linked to more new heart problems, especially rhythm disorders and coronary disease, even after mild COVID, with the strongest relative risk seen in women.

This #LongCOVIDAwarenessDay, it was incredible to see the global #LongCOVID community come together and mobilize. This is what we did in 2020—every day, every week—and it drove real change. This is the kind of energy and collective action we need again moving forward.
To every organizer, whether an organization or an individual, and to everyone who participated: thank you.
Tomorrow, the work continues as #LongCOVIDAwarenessWeek and #LongCOVIDAwarenessMonth move forward.
Be sure to join this week’s #SocialMediaWeekOfAction. Visit https://t.co/q7yUbaQLu6 and scroll midway down the page to find the actions and posters.
Calgary’s Telus Spark science centre lit up for Long Covid awareness day. 💙
Too bad the universities weren’t lit up. You know, the so called great institutions of science and knowledge dissemination. 🤷♀️

Across Scotland, buildings lit up last night for International Long Covid Awareness Day and the many thousands affected.
We call on all parties & MSPs to commit in the next Parliamentary term to proper data collection, equality of care, and medical treatment for Long Covid
For #LongCOVID Awareness Day, we’re calling out the myths.
Misconceptions about Long COVID still hinder care.
With the EU, WHO/Europe co‑created Long COVID Mythbusters with patients and experts—pairing harmful myths with real stories.
